A Study On The Correlation Between University Students' Academic Achievements And Their Society Activities

The university students society is an important student organization on campus,it is closely related to the academic achievement of university students.This study makes research on the academic achievements and the society activities of the students from six majors in X International Studies University,and discusses the current situation of university students' participation in students society activities and the correlation between this situation and their academic achievements.Following two questions are discussed in this study: firstly,what is the current situation of university students' participation in students society activities? Secondly,what is the correlation between university students' academic achievements and their society activities? This study was conducted through questionnaires and interviews.Firstly,this study conducted a questionnaire survey on the status of students society activities among 300 students in X International Studies University.Secondly,at the same time,the students' grade point average(GPA)before the questionnaire were taken as the academic achievements in this study.Thirdly,this study chosen five cadres and five ordinary members in students society who also participated in the questionnaire survey,and another five guidance teachers in students society activities to conduct interviews.This study is of great significance for exploring the development rules of university students society,analyzing the correlation between university students' academic achievements and their society activities and providing references for educational decision-making.Through investigation and analysis,the conclusions are drawn as follows: firstly,the motivation of university students to participate in the students societies is mainly to improve their comprehensive ability.The number of the students who participate in the cultural and entertainment society is the most,and the students who participate in the academic research society is the least.Besides,most of those who play a relatively important role or a very important role are society cadres.The proportion of society cadres from rural areas is the lowest,while those from cities have the highest proportion.Secondly,when their motivation to join in students society is to enrich their daily life or just for recreation,the proportion of the students with few academic achievements is the highest;when their motivation is to improve their comprehensive abilities,the proportion of the students with many academic achievements is the highest.there is no significant correlation between the academic achievements of university students and their participation in the activities.Most students who join in the academic research society have high academic achievements.There is a weak negative association relationship between the university students' academic achievements and the participation in their favorite social activities every semester.There is no significant correlations between university students' academic achievements and the frequency of contact with other society members nor their role that they play in students societies.Among students who serve as society cadres,the proportion of whom with few academic achievements is the highest.When the students' gain from students society is increasing their knowledge,the proportion of those with few academic achievements is the highest.Finally,this study puts forward the following suggestions for the development of university students society: first of all,the university should fully recognize the positive functions of students society and guide and support the development of the students society actively.And the university also should take cultivation of excellent talents as the ultimate goal of the development of the university students society.Secondly,the university students society should improve the quality of their activities,optimize and innovate the content of the community activities.In the end,choosing proper cadres of the university students society to exert their influences,and at the same time maximally stimulate the passion of ordinary members to participate in society activities.
