Whether a city or a country should bid for the Olympics or FIFA World Cup is often a heated debate.Using the panel data from 1970 to 2016,the empirical results show that large-scale sports events have a positive impact on the economic development of the host country(region),which is significant for the investment.Further analysis found that: during the period of preparation in the large sports events, domestic investment increased particularly fast, characterized by the establishment of more companies and listed, and FDI is more likely to issue with an explosive growth after the game.In addition,in terms of enterprise investment, developing countries than developed countries is clearly more appropriate for large-scale sports events like the summer Olympic Games or World Cup. |
