In the United States,the "magnet school" is also known as the "attractive school"and the "popular school".The magnet school is aimed at students in the basic education stage of the United States(K-12 public school education).In 1975-1976,the Court supported the magnet programs as a strategy to abolish school segregation and gradually developed a magnet school programs in many large city school districts to promote racial integration.In addition,the magnet programs has become increasingly attractive to students and parents,which provides a huge impetus for the establishment of magnet school programs.Magnet school programs has four characteristics: Firstly,to provide a unique educational curriculum.Secondly,to attract students across school districts.Thirdly,parents and their children are encouraged and allowed to choose the magnet school programs.Fourthly,to abolish apartheid and promote racial integration.In order to provide reference for the development of special programs and the construction of characteristic schools in China,this paper expounds and analyzes the magnet programs from multiple dimensions.The structure of this paper consists of an introduction part and five chapters.The contents of the study are as follows:The Introduction.This paper presents the source of topic selection from domestic and foreign perspectives.The paper also introduces the theoretical and practical significance of studying the magnet programs.The dissertation defines the concepts of Magnet School,Magnet Programs,Characteristics,Curriculum,and Special Programs.This paper analyzes the research status from both domestic and foreign aspects.It also illustrates the innovations and the research methods of this study.The first chapter introduces the background of the rise of magnet programs,including the background of education policy and social history.The second chapter interprets the magnet programs from multiple dimensions.These five dimensions are as follows: The concept of magnet programs.Therelationships between the magnet programs and the magnet schools.The number of schools offering magnet programs.The scope of schools offering magnet programs.The number of students participating in the magnet programs.The third chapter explores the characteristics of magnet programs from multiple perspectives.These seven angles are as follows: First of all,the magnet programs are designed to eliminate apartheid and promote racial integration.Secondly,the standards for selecting the magnet programs are strict.Thirdly,the magnet programs are student-centered.In addition,the service group of magnet programs are diversified,encouraging students from all races and ethnic groups to attend.Besides,the magnet programs participants are diversified.The society,government,school district,magnet school and parents are all involved in the development and implementation of magnet programs.What's more,there are various types of magnet programs.In the end,the magnet programs pay more attention to the social practice.The fourth chapter analyzes the positive influence of magnet programs from many aspects.The four aspects are as follows: Firstly,the magnet programs have promoted racial integration.Secondly,the magnet programs have promoted fair access to education.Thirdly,the magnet programs have improved students' academic achievements.Last but not least,the magnet programs have boosted the students' and parents' satisfaction with public schools.The fifth chapter analyzes the enlightenment of American magnet programs to the construction of Chinese special programs from three dimensions so that it can bring positive reference for the construction of Chinese special programs.The construction of special programs should be student-oriented to understand the characteristics of students and meet the needs of students.The construction of special programs should mobilize all forces to promote the construction of special programs.But beyond that,the construction of special programs should also lay emphasis on the facts and practice.
