The Malaysian Chinese Primary schools are built for Chinese generations while using the Chinese language as their medium language to conduct the lessons. The situation started to change in Sabah, one of the states in Malaysia due to the limitations of geographical environment and the development.Non-Chinese ethnics started to increase dramatically results in the increase on non-Chinese students in the Chinese primary school. As a result, teachers have to change their teaching pedagogy and methodology in order to satisfy the needs of the non-Chinese students. If the teachers refused to do,it will cause the non-Chinese students facing difficulties and obstacles in their study especially their study in the Chinese language. This thesis aimed at the teaching of writing. So,the first step is to summarize the problems of learning and teaching Chinese composition from the referenced theses and class observation.Next,it will be the main part of the thesis, the application of mind-map in writing. The concept of mind-mapping was created by Joseph.D.Novak while his idea was based on the Cognitive Learning Theory by Ausubel. The thesis will explain their relationship and how it was being applied to the writing. Then, the thesis will elaborate on the application of mind-map in three genre of writing—the narrative writing, expository and the argumentative essay.By using one type of mind map to be applied to the different genre of writing is the innovation of this thesis. The purpose of using one mind map is helping the students to master this skill, making it a habit in their writing and prevent from confusion.Application of mind-mapping in writing hopefully and help them to solve the problems of 'how to start the writing' and 'what to write'.In the final part of the thesis,we will analyze the students' result of writing. After a year of practice,we can found that there was a sustainable improvement in the students' exam. This transformation told us the value of this new method. The writer will reflect on the input of this method and how can it be improved.Hopefully, this practical method could help to solve both the teachers and student's problem in Chinese composition writing.
