Thinking Maps developed by Dr. David is a new type of visual knowledge tool, which has great potential application in the field of education. At present many scholars at home and abroad are beginning to pay attention to this field. Based on the research, this paper mainly researched the application on Thinking Maps in the chemistry teaching design of senior middle school in the new curriculum. It has been completed the following several aspects:We defined the conception of Thinking maps in the aspect of theory. We analysed the theoretical foundation of Thinking Maps and the theoretical basis of chemistry teaching design by gathering documents and material. Besides that, we analyse the theoretical basis of chemistry teaching strategy and theoretical feasibility in view of Thinking Maps to find evidences and supports on strategy implementation.In the aspect of practice research, we firstly surveyed status of high school chemistry teaching and learning, and realized the existing problem of the teachers in the new curriculum teaching. we also analyzed the interest and the chemistry learning ability of students. These conclusions were prepared for the experimental research and the background information; Then we mainly analyzed the compulsory two main themes of high school chemistry, namely the composition of the conception, principles, elements and their compounds. And according to the characteristics of the subjects we applied Thinking Maps strategies on teaching design for exploring the using modes of Thinking maps, we did the contrast experiments to test its teaching value. Finally, we test its teaching effects by using the tests and questionnaire surveys.We can get the main experimental results as follows:For teachers:thinking maps strategy could help the teachers to analyze the textbooks and construct the knowledge system of each chapter as a new teaching method and tool; On the other hand, it is helpful for the teachers to investigate the knowledge structure of students and it become a tool of experiments exploration to guide students to design experiment in accordance with the process of scientific inquiry.For students:Thinking maps is good for the students to actively construct knowledge and deeply understand knowledge, training their scientific thinking ability such as analyzing problems, solving problems, induction and summarization. Meanwhile, it could add learning interest and confidence to the students, experience the fun of cooperation, cultivating the spirit of scientific inquiry and co-consciousness.Therefore, thinking maps strategy is valuable in middle school teaching, and its enormous educational potential yet need to be further developed.
