Following with the increasing requirements on bandwidth,the traditional copper wire access technology can’t meet the current communication demand any more.How to improve the efficiency of access network becomes a critical issue.With the development of optical networks,there are multiple solutions to the "last kilometer" access network.Among all these solutions,PON(Passive Optical Network)access solution,with the popularization of optical fiber,the reduction of application cost,the more convenient construction and maintenance and higher requirement of performance index,stands out as one of the best schemes for access network.This paper first introduced the development of access network technology,and then mainly studied and discussed the differences between PON and Ethernet access mode.After that,PON-based access solution by combining the present situation of campus access network was discussed.Then,GPON(Gigabit-Capable Passive Optical Network)technology was introduced in the construction of access network with taking various aspects such as technical standard and site adaptation into account.Furthermore,the designed scheme based on GPON technology was proposed.The relevant issues involved in the design and specific construction of premises network access structure were pointed out.Finally,the campus resident networks were implemented and the operational performances were evaluated to verify their utilization.
