A Study On The Relationships Of Personality Traits,Loneliness And Mobile Phone Dependence For College Students

This study aims to investigate three questions as follows.The first question is to know the present situation of college students’ mobile phone dependence and to investigate their personality traits,loneliness or mobile phone dependence having some differences in demographic variables.The second question is to find out the relationships between personality traits and mobile phone dependence,personality traits and loneliness,loneliness and mobile phone dependence.The last question is to explore the internal psychological mechanism about personality traits,loneliness and mobile phone dependence.Questionnaires are conducted in total of 518 college students ranging from freshmen to senior students who come from Jiangxi province.They are assessed with three questionnaires such as CBF-PI-B,UCLA and MPAI.The statistics are collected by the analysis of descriptive statistical,significant difference,correlation and mediation.The major results are as follows.Firstly,the problem of mobile phone dependence in college students are slight middle-lower.The mobile phone dependence rates are 29.2%.There are 151 college students that are highly mobile phone dependence.Among them,the highest score is74,the lowest score is 19.The dimension of escapement has a highest means.Secondly,it investigates some differences in demographic variables,such as gender,profession,whether the only child or not,grade,native place or whether acquiring scholarship or not.(1)To start with,neurotic ism has a significant difference in gender,profession and whether the only child or not.In details,the neurotic ism average score of girls obviously exceeds boys’,the students who major in liberal arts’ average score are significantly higher than art students’,the average score of non-only children are significantly higher than the single-children’ s.Once more,there is an obviously difference between agreeableness in aspects of gender and grade.The average score of girls are obviously higher than boys’.The average score of freshmen are obviously higher than senior students’.At last,it has an obviously difference aboutconscientious in whether the students acquiring the scholarship or not.The average score of the students who acquired the scholarship are significantly higher than the students’ who didn’t get.(2)There is a significantly difference between mobile phone dependence and demography variables.First of all,the escapement average score of girls are obviously exceed than boys’.The next,the average score of students who major in liberal arts’ are significantly higher than students’ majoring in arts.(3)It has no obviously difference between loneliness and demographic variables.Thirdly,there are significant positive correlation between personality traits and mobile phone dependence,personality traits and loneliness,loneliness and mobile phone dependence.In details,there are obvious positive correlation between neurotic ism and mobile phone dependence,neurotic ism and loneliness,loneliness and mobile phone dependence.There are significant negative correlation between conscientious and mobile phone dependence,conscientious and loneliness.Fourthly,path analysis shows loneliness plays a partially mediating role between conscientious and mobile phone dependence,and the mediation effect accounts for the total effect 15.4%.The partially mediation means conscientious either influences the mobile phone dependence directly or affects mobile phone dependence through loneliness indirectly.
