"Figure" is an important means for textbook editors to convey knowledge and present educational contents and a significant knowledge and value carrier for students to get access to and understand multi-culture.It is particularly true in Chinese education as the figures selected by textbook editors play an important role in the cultivation of right outlook of the world,life and values for students.One of the important ways of textbook research is to focus on the figures in textbooks and make analysis of the value orientations contained therein.Foreign figures in textbooks draw pupils’ attention particularly.Such figures can not only allow students to get access to multi-culture,broaden their horizon and expand their thought,but also cultivate an international understanding consciousness in the pupils.Under the overall background of globalization,the growth of international communication requires students to have international view and global mind;therefore,an increasing number of varies types of foreigners are included in Chinese textbooks for primary schools.This paper takes foreign figures in Chinese textbooks for primary schools as research objects and the three commonly used textbooks of Jiangsu Education Press edition,People’s Education Press edition and Beijing Normal University Press edition as analysis text。First,I analyze the educational value of adding foreign figures to Chinese textbooks for primary schools from the three aspects of broadening students’ horizon,cultivating students’ international understanding and appreciating foreign figures as well as making up for the shortage in ideological and moral education.Second,I conduct a detailed statistics and analysis of the basic conditions of foreign figures in Chinese textbooks for primary schools and makes a comparative analysis of three types of foreign figures,i.e.family,friends and merits.Third,after the analysis of foreign figures in the three sets of Chinese textbooks for primary schools,it points out some problems in edition: unclear purpose,repeated themes,unbalanced nation distribution and unbalanced gender distribution.Finally,it raises some suggestions for foreign figures edition in Chinese textbooks for primary schools from the five aspects of era,system,variety,equality and harmony,for the purpose of providing some assistancefor the edition of Chinese textbooks for primary schools.
