Mary Lyon(1797-1849)was a pioneer of women's higher ed ucation in the United States.She founded Mount Holyoke Fema le Seminary,the oldest women's college in the United States so far.At the beginning of the nineteenth century,women's education in the United States was ignored.Mary Lyon exper ienced a difficult learning process,accumulated rich teachi ng and management experience,formed a unique school-running concept,and on this basis,carried out school-running prac tice-the establishment of Mount Holyoke Female Seminary.T he establishment of the Seminary laid a solid foundation for the development of American women's higher education and pr omoted the development of women's education in the world.The research on Mary Lyon's school-running idea and prac tice will be carried out in five parts.The first part is the introduction,which includes five parts: the reason for selecting the topic,the significance of the research,the literature review,the definition of th e concept,the research ideas and research methods.The second part introduces the women's education in Mary Lyon's time and her educational experience.Mary Lyon livedin the early days of the founding of the United States.At that time,the situation of women's education in the United States showed that women mainly received family education,w omen's school education gradually rose,and women's higher e ducation began to germinate.Mary Lyon's educational experie nce mainly includes three aspects: educational experience,t eaching experience and educational management experience.The third part discusses Mary Lyon's idea of running a s chool.She believed that men and women were born equal and s hould receive equal education.She hoped to establish a high er education institution for women to spread the gospel of r eligion,promote women's progress,advocate equality and sus tainable development of education.The fourth part mainly studies the establishment and man agement of Mount Holyoke Female Seminary,which is the pract ice of Mary Lyon under her school-running idea.This paper a ims to restore the founding process of Mount Holyoke Female Seminary from the aspects of fund raising,teacher selection and student selection,school site selection and college bu ilding.This paper explores the management of Mary Lyon to M ount Holyoke Female Seminary through the analysis of its cur riculum and teaching methods,teacher management and studentmanagement,and school-running funds management.The fifth part is the evaluation of Mary Lyon's school-r unning idea and practice,including the significance of prog ress and limitations.Mary Lyon's school-running idea and pr actice laid the foundation for the development of women's hi gher education and promoted the development of women's educa tion in the world,which has great significance for progress.However,due to historical limitations,her school-running ideas and practice also have obvious shortcomings,religious color is too strong,and the level of school-running needs to be improved.
