The core of the system is to cultivate the ability of graduate students to discover,analyze and solve problems,especially in the scientific research capacity of the discipline.Supervisors,taking the main role of taking care of graduate students at universities,have a significant impact on graduate education.In recent years,more and more scholars with overseas background choose to return to China.The overseas returnees have received systematic and rigorous academic training in the relatively mature academic system in other countries.They have participated in various international conferences and have access to international cutting-edge research in their academic fields.With a broad international vision,their rich experiences in overseas study bring new vitality to domestic Universities' R&D.Most returnees play a role as supervisors in universities,and what's the characteristics of returnee supervisors and graduate students relationship?And can it provide a useful reference for the relationship between supervisors and students?Against this background,this study adopts a qualitative research approach,taking Bandura's interactive determinism as a theoretical perspective,and conducts interviews of supervisors with overseas experience and students in University S,supplemented by a small number of local supervisors and students.The study interviewed both supervisors and students,exploring the interaction between returnee supervisors and graduate student in terms of the start,the process,and the end,as well as the factors influencing the relationship between supervisors and students.Results indicate the relationship between supervisors with overseas experience and their students has obvious characteristics,such as providing students with more opportunities for academic exchanges,pay more emphasis on content quality for student management philosophy,have more return awareness for academic reward and strong sense of copyright,team management pattern emphasizes more on the final results and so on.And through four groups of one-to-one supervisor-student relationship cases,this study attempts to analyze this relationship from the perspectives of supervisors and students deeply.And we found that teachers and students have different opinions on the same issues and lack of communication between teachers and students affects the relationship much more.This research summarizes influence factors of teacher-student relationship and further puts forward suggestions for improving the relationship between supervisors and students from the perspective of environment,subject,and behavior respectively.
