Teaching materials,teachers,and students are the three basic factors in the teaching process.Among them,the teaching materials are the basis for teachers to teach,and also the resources for students to learn.The quality of the textbook directly affects the learner's learning.The use of Indonesian Chinese textbooks also directly affects the quality of Indonesian Chinese education.This paper mainly investigates and studies the use of Singaporean primary school Chinese textbooks “Huan Le Huo Ban” and “Xiao Xue Hua Wen” at international schools in Jakarta.I use questionnaires and interviews to explore whether these two sets of teaching materials fit with the needs of the Indonesian learners and whether they can inspire and encourage the Indonesian learners to learn.I report the strengths and weaknesses of the textbooks.I provide my thoughts and suggestions.I hope that they could help teachers and students choose and use textbooks as well as serve as references for future development of Indonesian Chinese textbooks for the primary schools in Indonesia and particulary at international schools in Jakarta.This paper consists of five parts.The first part is the introduction.It includes the basis of the topic selection and its significance,the literature review,and the overview of Chinese primary school Chinese textbooks.The second part analyzes the students' perspective of the use of “Huan Le Huo Ban” and “Xiao Xue Hua Wen” in Jakarta.It includes the survey used,data collected and analysis.The results were then compared and analyzed.The third part investigates and reports the teachers' perspective of the use of “Huan Le Huo Ban” and “Xiao Xue Hua Wen” in Jakarta.The content includes teachers' surveys,data analysis,and comparison of the results of the two surveys.The fourth part consists of my observation,thought and suggestion for using the Singaporean Chinese textbooks as well as the preparation of a localized Chinese textbooks for Indonesian primary schools.The fifth part is a general summary of the research of this thesis.
