The educational aspirations of students in the basic education stage can affect their academic performance and future educational attainment to a certain extent,so the study of junior high school students' educational aspirations has attracted extensive attention.Based on the data of China Education Panel Survey(CEPS)published by Renmin University of China, and the status acquisition model of the Wisconsin School and the relevant theories in Coleman Report, this study makes a detailed analysis of the present situation and influencing factors of students' own higher educational aspirations, students' perceived parental higher educational aspirations, and the gaps between these two aspirations.Furthermore,it explores the impact of the gap between students' own higher educational aspirations and their perceived parental higher educational aspirations on student learning. The main conclusions are the following three parts.Firstly,it analyses the current situation and influencing factors of students' own higher educational aspirations. The study finds that the overall level of higher educational aspirations of junior high school students in China is relatively high, and most students hope that their education level is not lower than the highest education level of their parents.Students' personal, family and school background will affect their self-higher educational aspirations.Among them, the higher the educational level of parents, the more educational participation, the more positive the performance of teachers and peers, and the higher the level of students' own higher educational aspirations.Secondly, this study focuses on the status quo of students' perceived parental higher educational aspirations for their children, and examines the impact of family socioeconomic status and parental education participation on students' perceived parental higher educational aspirations. The study finds that:(1)80.0% of students perceive parents' ambitions for higher education, but compared with students' ownhigher educational aspirations and parents' actual higher education aspirations, students' perceived parental higher education aspirations are the lowest. Most students perceive the educational aspiration level of their parents is not lower than the highest education level of their parents.(2)Family socioeconomic status and parents' participation in education have an important impact on students' perception of parents' higher educational aspirations. The higher the educational level of parents and the more parents participate in education, the higher the parental aspirations perceived by the students.Thirdly, this study analyzed the current situation and the path of the gap between students' own educational aspirations and their perceived parental educational aspirations, and its impact on students' study. The study finds that:(1)25.1% of students' higher educational aspirations are higher than perceived parental higher educational aspirations, and 11.7% of students' self-higher educational aspirations are lower than perceived parental higher educational aspirations.Among them, students from low socioeconomic status and poor school backgrounds perceive a higher proportion of the gaps between students' own educational aspirations and their perceived parental educational aspirations.(2)The main place where students perceive the gap between students' own educational aspirations and their perceived parental educational aspirations is at home and school.Family background environment and school education will lead to the generation and expansion of this gap.(3)When students' self-higher educational aspiration level is higher than that of their parents, the difference of higher educational aspiration between parents and children will negatively affect students' academic performance, cognitive level and academic mood. When students perceive parents' higher educational aspirations, the difference between parents and children's higher education aspirations has no significant impact on students' learning. The study proposes the following recommendations for the negative impact ofthe gap between students' own educational aspirations and their perceived parental educational aspirations on students' academic performance: at the family level, parents should control their own high educational aspirations and pay attention to the over-limit effect when actively participating in students' learning activities;at the school level, teachers should adopt the encouragement type and excellent peer groups can improve students' learning performance;at the social level,we should respect the individual's educational aspirations and don't interfere too much.
