From the perspective of cognitive psychology,there are two kinds of cognitive activities in the process of reading.One is the direct cognition of the reading material,and the other is the cognition of the reading process.The latter is called meta-reading,whose essence is the cognitive and regulated processing of the reading activity,which is conducted on the basis of meta-cognition by the reader.Meta-reading plays an important role in the study and application of physics laws in senior high school.This paper regards the process of solving physics exercises as a process of reading comprehension.Based on literature review,the general process of reading comprehension and the characteristics of physics,the general mode of solving physics exercises is sorted out into six stages,including perceiving graphic information,combing physical situations,constructing physical models,planning strategies for solving problems,generating solutions and reflecting on the problem-solving process.Meanwhile,on the basis of meta cognitive theories,meta-reading ability in the process of solving physics exercises is divided into three main aspects,which include cognitive knowledge,experience and monitoring.Besides,the meaning of each aspect and its secondary contents are explained accordingly,and the relational model of solutions to physics exercises and meta-reading ability is constructed in this paper.According to the composition of meta-reading ability,a questionnaire is designed and used to understand the current situation of students' meta-reading ability,whose research object is students in the writer's school in-service.The results of the questionnaire are as follows.First,students' meta-reading ability is in the medium level,and the ability of monitoring is lower.Second,there are differences in meta-reading ability among students in different grades.Third,there are significant differences in meta-reading ability between boys and girls,and the meta-reading ability of boys is higher than that of girls.Finally,meta-reading ability is positively related to students' physical achievements.Based on the results of the questionnaire and the components of meta-reading ability,this paper puts forward some training strategies to improve students' meta-reading ability in physics exercises teaching.With these strategies,a list of exercise instructions is designed and used in the experimental class for months to improve students' meta-reading ability,and a questionnaire is used to test the practice.The following are the results.The average meta-reading ability of the students in the experimental class increased by 16.2% compared with that before the practice.And meanwhile,the students' ability to solve physics exercises is also improved.This shows that students' meta-reading ability can be cultivated,and the training strategies based on the list of exercise instructions is effective.Therefore,the methods of improving meta-reading ability used in this paper can provide some reference for teachers in the reform of exercises teaching.
