In an age of globalization and information,people's ideology has presented diverse and varied characteristics and values education is now facing many new situations,new issues.Therefore,how to convey mainstream values and build consensus in the complex social environment and multi-cultural collision has become a prominent problem that needs to be solved.Since the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,cultivating and practicing the socialist core values becomes a significant and urgent strategic task in academic research.School,which bears the responsibility of spreading mainstream values and cultivating social citizens,is the “primary tool” for values education of young people and it is the main field of values education.At the same time,the practical research and theoretical exploration of value education should not only focus on the main channel and the main position in the school,but also need to expand into the life of students.At the 2016 National Conference on Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities,Chairman Xi emphasized that ideological and political work should be carried out throughout the entire process of education and teaching,and all personnel should be educated in all aspects.Student residence is an important environmental factor that affects the growth and success of college students.It is an important practice field for value education.In America,universities regard student residences as the practical carrier of value education and they have realized the guidance and penetration of youth values,which is worth in-depth study in China.This thesis follows the Marxist standpoints,viewpoints and methods,and it tries to expand the research horizons of China's values education by summing up main content,methods and typical characteristics of value education in American university residence,then it aims to provide some reference for the integration of socialist core values into the daily life of college students.Based on such background and realistic conditions,this article follows the Marxist standpoint,viewpoint and approach,and tries to conclude the typical characteristics of the values education in American university dormitories by summarizing the main contents and methods of it,and then expands the horizons and fields of our value education.This research also wants to offer inspirations and references for how to integrate the socialist core values into the daily life of college students.Based on the above ideas,the dissertation contains four chapters as follows:Chapter one focuses on the meaning of American university residence and values education.The first part mainly discusses the issues of“appearance”and“essence” in values education and it intends to clarify the connection between university residence and value education.Then it also wants to highlight the important role of university dormitory in values education.The second part explains the connotation of residences of American university.From the historical perspective,it has combed the functional evolution of American university dorms and three main organizational forms of them.Chapter two mainly focuses on the main content of values education in American university residence.Based on various educational activities in dormitories,it summarizes the main value orientation and explains the basic structure of the educational content of values education in American university dorms.In political dimension,values education in dormitory emphasizes civic responsibility and enhances civic participation.It strengthens community awareness and advocates mutual cooperation in social aspect.Then,it pursuits freedom,equality and personal fulfillment in individual dimension and it respects cultural diversity and aims to promote cultural compatibility in cultural aspect.Finally,this part also reveals the ideology orientation of the educational content of values education in the American university dormitories through some specific cases.Chapter three mainly studies the implementation path of values education in the American university dormitories from basic resources,educational activities and environment creation aspects.And it concludes the six main methods of values education in the American university dormitories,which including infrastructure construction and support of faculty,integration of general education and extracurricular activities,interaction and dormitory culture edification.The fourth chapter mainly studies the typical characteristics of values education in American university dormitories and it also tries to draw some good reference for values education of China.Firstly,this part summarizes and condenses the main characteristics of the four-dimensional combination of the value education in the American university dormitories,which including: the combination of individualism and collectivism on educational idea;the combination of explicit indoctrination and implicit infiltration in educational methods;the combination of teachers and students in the subject of education;the combination of department cooperation and independence in the operational mechanism.Secondly,on the basis of typical characteristics,this chapter summarizes the pattern which values education in American university dormitories follows.Then,it tries to find out some references for current ideological and political education in insisting the value guidance at national levels,pursuing the parallel development of individual and collective values,excavating the implicit education of values,and exploring the resources of all-around resources for current ideological and political education.
