Research team is an important unit of scientific and technological innovation in colleges and universities,taking a core position in the scientific research of universities.Young faculty,as the most active force in scientific research team of universities,has attracted extensive attention from all circles of society.Focusing on young faculties in the research teams of the science and engineering departments at a high-level research university,this study analyzed the factors influencing young faculty's innovative behavior and research productivity at individual and team levels.Based on the findings,policy implications are proposed for developing research teams in the university.There are several findings of this study: First,compared with the faculties with junior and senior professional titles,associate professors publish more international articles as thefirst author or corresponding author.Second,team innovation climate and team internal social relationship have positive effect on individual's innovation behavior.Third,the number of patents granted to the young faculty as the first inventor is positively correlated with individual's innovation behavior and team internal social relationship.Fifth,team internal social relationship has a significant negative effect on the number of papers co-authored with team members.Forth,young faculties with stronger individual innovative behavior are less likely to cooperate with their team members as a non-first author to publish articles.The research results have implications for the team innovation theory and management practices.Theoretically,this study creatively combines the individual innovation theory with the research productivity theory,focusing on young faculty' innovation behavior in the process of academic capacity development.In the aspect of team management practice,team managers are suggested to focus on the factors influencing individual innovation behavior and scientific research output.Through building a team culture that encourages innovation,it is expected to motivate young faculties to actively take part in team research.
