Study On Professional Roles Adjustment Of Embedded Medical Social Workers

Social work is a top-down developing profession and occupation.Scholar Wang Sibin believes that most of social work service is embedded to all areas of service.As this article focuses on,medical social work is embedded to the medical field which bases on the authority of medical profession.In this special environment,medical social workers should insist their professional values and ideas,because they have more difficulties in adjusting their professional roles and establishing their professional status than those in other areas of social work.Therefore,the author works on "professional roles adjustment of medical social workers" in this article.This article works on these problems as follows.First of all,how does a med ical social worker cooperate with doctors and nurses in some interaction,who have specific behavioral value,professional standards and professional boundaries.Secondly,what medical social workers are facing is how to insist their professional value under the professional authority,as well as how to establish a professional image and status from clients and other professional group?This article takes the role theory as theoretical instruction and the medical social workers project in Nanhai District of Foshan C ity People's Hospital as sample.It makes a creative analysis on embedded situation of medical social workers,by adopting primarily a qualitative approach with the help of a quantitative research method.Under the dynamic scenarios of same space(or not)and consistent time(or not),the article tends to analyze the role adjustment of embedded medical social worker in multi-specialty interaction,which uses space station map,the internal and external definition of professional role,expectations of consistency,cognitive feedback from clients(…)to discuss.The author has found that the evaluation of the medical social workers themselves is higher than other professional groups,but there is not such significant difference in the role expectation between medical social workers and other professional groups.There still remains a gap between the role expectation of medical social workers and the reality.Under different situations,the intensity of professional adjustment of medical social workers is different.When simply facing clients,their professional adjustment is lowest,and all they need is to present their professional service.When they get referrals from nurses,their professional adjustment remains relatively moderate,and their professional demonstration is based on relatively equal interaction between nurse and them.When it comes to staying with the professional group such as doctors,their role is a little marginalized.They have to reform professional role after the professiona l group's leaving,which is a strong professional role adjustment.Because medical social worker is a kind of embedded social workers,they have to balance their self-adjustment and external evaluation,which truly shows the value of social work.
