As an important genre of western modern bourgeois education thought,Dewey's pragmatism education theory has enjoyed a high status all the time in the history of education.During the May 4th Movement,The ideological field was unprecedentedly active in China and Dewey was invited to China by his followers and members of China's new intellectual circles.In more than two years,Dewey has made more than 200 speeches throughout the country to spare no effort to publicize his pragmatism education theory,which covers various fields such as politics,philosophy,pedagogy,social ethics and so on.Through the vigorous propaganda of Dewey's disciples and Dewey's speeches in China,pragmatism had been widely disseminated in China so that the articles about pragmatism could be found everywhere in newspapers and periodicals,which led to the peak of pragmatism education in China.Dewey's visit to China is not only a simple historical event,but also closely related to China's social environment and international background during the May 4th Movement.Through Dewey's propaganda of pragmatism in China,the educational and academic circles at that time also had different reactions to Dewey's pragmatism.Up to now,Some content in the theory of pragmatism education is still worth studying and learning from.While Dewey's visit to China also has been one of the most worthwhile topics in the history of modern Chinese thought,education and politics.
