Research to improve students' ability to solve mathematical problems is the focus of mathematical education research and the primary goal of practical teaching of mathematics. The premise of solving a problem is to dig the essence of the problem, correctly grasp and refine the information, and correctly characterize the problem. The flexibility of representation conversion and the diversity of applications affect the process and results of problem solving. The multiple representation ability of junior high school students in mathematical problem solving is the research topic of this article.First, this paper uses the literature research method to comb the existing research on multivariate representation ability in mathematical problem solving, defines the concept of multivariate representation ability, and divides the external representation of mathematical problems into text representation, symbol representation, and graphic representation. As well as table representation, the evaluation method of students' multiple representation ability was determined.Secondly, using the test survey method, researched the multivariate representation ability of junior students in mathematical problem solving. The conclusions are as follows:students have the best grasp of the conversion from tables to text, and the worst is the conversion from symbols to graphics;most Students can only apply one form of representation when solving problems;gender has no significant effect on their multiple representation abilities, but ordinary grades affect students' multiple representation abilities;students are more adept at solving the five types of problems common in mathematics learning Exploring problems. Then, through the students' problem-solving process, from the two aspects of multiple representation conversion and multiple representation application, the factors affecting students' multiple representation ability were mainly discussed, including mathematical knowledge, representation preference and student learning psychology:students'mathematical knowledge The lack of will lead to the failure of representation transformation and application;students are only familiar with one form of representation, have poor awareness and mastery of other forms of representation, and cannot flexibly perform multiple representation transformations and applications;students have more complex primitive representations Fear can lead to failure or error in parsing information, and students' poor mathematical problem solving habits and attitudes will also hinder the success of problem solving. Finally, according to the research conclusions, teaching strategies are proposed to improve the multiple representation ability of middle school students:first, teachers should pay attention to cultivate students' multiple representation consciousness;second, teachers should strengthen the practice of students' multiple representation transformation and application;third, advocate the generation of teaching mode to cultivate students' multiple representation ability.
