Immersive teaching is a kind of bilingual teaching, which is both a teaching method and a teaching content in teaching process. The immersion program in the United States refers to the immersive teaching model that runs in the form of a project in the current American basic education system.Immersion programs can also be divided into different types based on immersion time, introductory stage, and the composition of participating students. In recent years,Chinese immersion programs have been booming in the United States. As of July 2019,there have been 315 schools offering Chinese immersion programs in the United States. Thus, the analysis of this project has become a hot topic. In this paper, through quantitative analysis of the database provided by the Mandarin Immersion Parents Council,at the same time, through the self-built database, the information in the existing database is supplemented to better understand the historical changes and current status of the development of Chinese immersive projects.Chinese immersion programs have different development models in different states, school districts, and cities. Some projects have been very successful, and the number of students has increased every year, while some projects have been canceled. Therefore, two schools with different properties and development models are selected in the following text,to analyze the successful experience of the immersion project, summarize the factors and conditions of their success, and to put forward some suggestions for the development of Chinese immersion programs in other regions and countries.According to the school district, there are mainly two types of immersion programs:"radiation" and "balanced";according to the city, they can be divided into"centralized" and "dispersed";according to the character, they can be divided into"top-down" and "bottom-up"these two types. The learners of the Chinese Immersion Program meet the general rules of language learning:the more advanced to the lower the number of people, the more concentrated in the elementary school. The existing immersion mode is dominated by 50%of the immersion time.As far as the current faculty is concerned, their teachers' quantity and quality are not very optimistic. There is much room for improvement in the development of immersive programs. The Chinese immersion program in the United States has been growing, but during this period its growth rate has declined several times. From the perspective of the development of schools of different nature, the development potential of public schools is the greatest, and the focus of future development should also be placed on public schools. Most of the immersion programs that were closed during the development process were due to funding and teacher problems. The Yew Chung International School and Jie Ming Mandarin Immersion are two typical cases.Yew Chung International School belongs to the "radiation type" and"bottom-up" types, and the Jie Ming Mandarin Immersion belongs to the "balanced"and "top-down" types. The two schools belong to different development models, but both developments have adapted to local development needs and have been successful. In short.successful immersion programs have fully utilized policy advantages, seized development opportunities. And they have sufficient funding sources and strong faculty, and adjusted immersive teaching models to meet local teaching needs.
