Primary school is quite important for the whole learning in one's life.Though some revolutions in the assessment for students have been conducted,most attention is paid to their scores.Getting high scores is still what teachers,parents and students want to achieve.School belonging is a positive feeling which is significant to the mental development of the primary school students.Studies have shown school belonging can help improve the academic achievement of the middle school students and high school students obviously.For primary school students,studies have shown that teacher care,school environment,peer relationship,and teacher-student relationship have a significant impact on academic performance.However,by now there have been no specific studies on the relations between school belonging and the academic achievement of the senior students in primary schools.Therefore,this research focuses on the relation between the two aspects.Two sections are included in the research.For section one,the differences of school belonging caused by demographic variables are discussed.The relation between school belonging and their academic achievement is researched as well.Besides,how school belonging can predict their academic achievement is looked into.Section two,the plan,Group Guidance on Sense of Belonging of the Senior Students in primary schools,is formulated to research the effectiveness of group guidance.How the academic achievement will be affected through improving school belonging helps to further testify the effectiveness of group guidance,which is a kind of intervention.Research one studies two classes randomly selected from each grade-grade 4,grade 5 and grade 6 with"School belonging questionnaire".In research two,two homogeneous classes selected randomly from grade 5 are respectively regarded as the experimental class(49)and the comparative class(49).Before intervention,the students' school belonging is measured and their final exam achievements of last term are checked.Then,according to Group Guidance on Sense of Belonging of the Senior Students in primary schools,the experimental class gets group guidance 8 times while the comparative class doesn't get any guidance.After that,the students'school belonging is measured again and their midterm exam achievements of this term are also checked.Finally,the comparison between the data of the two classes are conducted.Their academic achievement is the average score of three subjects-Chinese,Math,English.The conclusions of this research are as follows:First,school belonging of the senior students in primary schools varies considerably in gender,but it differs insignificantly in different grades.Second,school belonging of the senior students in primary schools and its each dimension are positively correlated with academic achievement,Third,school belonging of the senior students in primary schools and its each dimension can positively and significantly predict academic achievement.Fourthly,Group Guidance on Sense of Belonging of the Senior Students in primary schools formulated in this study is feasible effective.
