| A large amount of data from researches indicates that women are showing relatively greater obstacles in their body image due to the influence of media propaganda and gender stereotypes.Especially females in their 20s feel more dissatisfaction and anxiety about their bodies.Exercise is an effective way to improve your body image. In order to study the effect of different types of exercise on the body image of female college students with negative body image, this study first analyzed the effects of exercise intervention on negative body image, the regulation mechanism, and the choice of exercise methods through a literature review. The exercise and self-esteem model(EXSEM)is used as a research model to conduct experimental research on recruited female students with pre-existing body image concern.Through the research, the effects of exercise intervention on body image,as well as the correlation between change scores of actual physical fitness, perceived physical fitness, exercise self-efficacy,and body image are obtained. The results show that:1)After six weeks of experimental intervention, the three body image scores of the female college students tested have significantly improved compared to the baseline data.Among them, the body image state score BISS and the appearance evaluation AE p<0.001,and the body area satisfaction score BASS p<0.05;2)There is no significant difference in body image changes between the aerobic training group and the strength training group(under the interaction effect of time*condition, the p-values on the three body image indicators of BISS,AE,and BASS are all greater than 0.05)3)Changes in exercise self-efficacy(bench press self-efficacy,leg lift self-efficacy p<0.05)and actual physical fitness(10RM bench press,10RM seated rowing,waist-hip ratio p<0.05)were significantly correlated with changes in body image. There was no significant correlation between changes in perceived physical fitness and changes in body image(p>0.05 for perceived body obesity, perceived physical strength, and perceived endurance). Conclusions are as following:1)Exercise intervention has a significant effect on improving the body image of female college students with pre-existing negative body image;2)The effect of aerobic training on body image has no significant difference from the effect of strength training on body image;3)Individuals who have improved their self-efficacy and actual physical fitness have greater improvements in body image. |
