Scotland has been well known for its high quality of education.According to the author's observation of history lessons in North Berwick High School in Scotland,and from the angle of history curriculum setting in Scottish Public Secondary Schools,classroom teaching,history examination and evaluation,this article is aimed to analyze the characteristics of history teaching in Scottish public secondary schools.What's more,the author also introduces the advantages and deficiencies of history teaching in Scotland.The full text is mainly divided into four parts:The first chapter introduces the education system in Scottish high school,and clarifies the difference between the public schools system and the other type of Scottish schools.The second chapter introduces "The Curriculum of Excellence",which runs through the history teaching in Scottish public schools.It explains in detail the "experience" and"outcomes" required for the different stages of history teaching in Scotland's Curriculum of Excellence.The third chapter explains the situation and characteristics of history teaching in Scottish public schools in detail according to the class materials and interview records collected by the author in North Berwick High School.It is elaborated from four aspects of history curriculum,the selection of history textbook,history teaching in classroom and history examination and evaluation.The fourth chapter analyzes the advantages of history teaching Scottish public schools from the perspective of the content setting in history course,teaching with historical materials,the use of ICT,etc.The author thinks that the problems existing in the current history teaching in Scotland include three aspects,such as weakening the cultivation of "British citizenship" identity,generally ignoring the knowledge and memory of the basic historical facts of history and poor classroom discipline management. |
