As a bridge linking real life and the mathematical world,mathematical application problems help junior high school students improve their ability of mathematical application and solving practical problems,and also play an important position in Mathematics High School Entrance Examination of various places.In the actual teaching,the study finds that solving application problems is not a small challenge for junior high school students.Therefore,it is significant to understand the obstacles of solving mathematics application problems in junior high school students and put forward specific solutions.This study adopts a mixture of quantitative and qualitative hybrid research methods.including literature research method,investigation research method,case study method and experimental research method.First of all,the study teases out the existing research results through literature review,and divided the junior high school mathematics application problems into three categories:algebraic application problems,geometric application problems,probability and statistics application problems.On this basis,the questionnaire and test paper were prepared.Then a self-compiled questionnaire and test paper were used to investigate 176 students in Wuxi Qing Mingqiao middle school.Based on the analysis of the feedback results,this study summarizes the obstacles of the mathematics application problems in junior high school and its causes.Then the first-line teachers were interviewed.On the one hand,obstacles to solve mathematics application problems and their causes were supplemented and refined.On the other hand,the corresponding teaching countermeasures were proposed according to the analysis results of literature research,questionnaires and test papers as well as the teacher interviews.The conclusions of this study are as follows:There are five kinds of obstacles to solve mathematics application problems in junior high school,including emotional obstacles,reading comprehension obstacles,building model obstacles,solving model obstacles and metacognitive monitoring obstacles.Then the study makes attribution analysis from the perspective of teachers and students.In view of the above five obstacles,the study raises some relevant teaching strategies:Variant teaching,psychological guidance of solving problems,change the presentation form of application problems,mathematical modeling;Expand students' knowledge,cultivate mathematical reading ability and problem representation strategies,carry out mathematical language translation training and the teaching of "reading pictures and speaking";Strengthen the induction and summary of different types of application problems and the teaching of basic knowledge;Demonstrate the methods and skills of operation;Guide students' metacognitive strategies and do well in testing and reflection after problem-solving activities.
