In the 21 st century where the video game industry continues to grow and living conditions continue to improve, more and more young people are experiencing rich and exciting challenges, feeling super immersion, and engaging in interpersonal interaction through video games. It can be said that video games have become the majority of teenagers' first choice for leisure and entertainment. However, whether it is the hottest mobile games such as "Peace Elite" and "Glory of the King",or the classic computer games such as "Counter-Strike" and "Grand Theft Auto",there is a lot of violent or criminal content, such as attacks, killing, stealing and even taking drugs.Because of a large number of negative content, violent video games have raised social concerns about adolescents' mental health. In real life, youths who endanger their own health and even harm others' lives due to indulging in violent video games are not rare.Do violent video games make teenagers aggressive? In recent decades, researchers have done a lot of research and debate about this.Researchers led by Anderson believe that exposure to violent video games will increase adolescents' aggressive behavior, aggressive cognition, and aggressive emotions, increase physiological arousal levels, reduce prosocial behavior, and produce a desensitizing effect on violent scenes. However,Ferguson believes that violent video games are only a catalyst for aggressive behavior.Depression, antisocial personality, domestic violence, peer relationships and other variables have a more significant predictive effect on aggressive behavior. At the same time,Chinese researchers have done a lot of research on the group of college and high school students, but they have not reached a consistent result.Among the majority of young people in China, secondary vocational students have plenty of after-school time due to their unique educational background. Many secondary vocational students are exposed to violent video games and immersed in them.Previous research results have shown that secondary vocational students have poor mental health and high aggressive level, but no research has focused on the impact of violent video game exposure on the secondary vocational student population. Therefore, how to view the impact of violent video games on the aggressiveness of secondary vocational students, and how to understand the role of coping style in it?In order to explore the long-term effects of violent video games,681 male students selected from a vocational middle school in Chongqing City were investigated by the Game Use Habit Questionnaire, the Simple Coping Style Questionnaire and the Attack Questionnaire in the first study. The conclusions are as follows:(1)There is a significant correlation between violent video game exposure and aggression among vocational students.(2)The violent video game exposure of secondary vocational students was significantly positively correlated with negative coping styles.(3)Negative coping styles positive moderate the impact of violent video games on aggressiveness, that is,under high levels of negative coping, violent video game exposure has a significant positive predictive effect on vocational school students' aggression. In order to examine the short-term effects of violent video games, the second study selected 72 male subjects with high levels of negative coping or high levels of positive coping, and set the subjects in a state of hostility by setting up a frustrating situation, examining the effects of different game types on aggression and the role of coping styles. The conclusions are as follows:(1)Compared with the non-violent video game group, the violent video game group showed more aggressiveness.(2)The interaction between violent video games and coping styles is significant: Individuals who tend to adopt negative coping styles are more susceptible to violent video games. The results of two studies show that long-term or short-term exposure to violent video games will have a negative impact on the aggressiveness of vocational school students, and the negative effects of violent video game exposure may be more significant for individuals who have already have high levels of negative coping and high-risk aggressive.
