Critical thinking,as a component of skills and literacy in the 21 st century,has always received great attention from the educational circles.Educational researchers are committed to exploring the promotion of students' critical thinking in school education.As a front-line educator,teachers' own level of critical thinking is sufficient to influence the formation of students' critical thinking.As a thinking skill,critical thinking cannot exist in a vacuum and needs to depend on specific situations and knowledge backgrounds.At the same time,biology is one of the natural science disciplines,and there are corresponding requirements for the cultivation of critical thinking.So critical thinking assessment tools,especially investigating the level of critical thinking of high school biology teachers is important.Based on this,this research focuses on the development of critical thinking assessment tools for high school biology teachers,and investigations to understand the critical thinking level of high school biology teachers and making suggestions.This study refers to the theoretical research results of critical thinking by scholars at home and abroad,summarizes the critical thinking evaluation framework for high school biology teachers.We refer to the ‘California Critical Thinking Tendency Questionnaire' and the Chinese Internet Refuting Rumours Platform Alliance,developing the "High School Biology Teachers' Critical Thinking Tendency Scale" and ‘High School Biology Teachers' Critical Thinking Test Questions'.After the evaluation tool completed,expert review and statistical analysis,it is determined that its reliability,structural validity,and content validity meet the requirements.We tested the critical thinking of high school biology teachers in Shanghai.Statistical analysis shows that the overall level of critical thinking in high school biology teachers is weak.There are significant differences in the critical thinking disposition and abilities of teachers from different teaching ages,professional titles,academic qualifications,undergraduate majors and undergraduate colleges.After correlation analysis,a preliminary summary of the correlation between critical thinking disposition and skills,and based on the results of the analysis and discussions with domestic experts and scholars,several suggestions for the cultivation of college students and in-service teacher training are provided for future high school biology teachers provide a reference for critical thinking training.
