Autism spectrum disorder is a generalized neurodevelopmental disorder. The core symptoms include persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts, and restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests,or activities. In daily life, facing unfamiliar scenes or sudden changes on the route, children with autism often behave uncomfortably, such as crying or even self-injury.Some studies have found that children with autism are unadaptable in unfamiliar and changing scenes because of lower Tolerance of Uncertainty(TU).One of the unadaptable behaviors is Repeated and Repetitive Behavior(RRB).The first part of the study aims to investigate TU in children with autism. The Tolerance of Uncertainty Scale12-parent version(TUS12-P)is used to measure the TU of 103 children aged 6-18 with autism. The results found that children with autism have low TUS12-P scores.Children with autism generally are intolerant of uncertainty. They have positive reactions that want to obtain information for anticipation of the future, and more negative reactions that are stuck to act.The second part of the study aims to explore how about the tolerant of uncertainty when children with autism get in uncertainty situations. The case study observes the performance of 4 children with autism in uncertain games with participatory observation. The results found that children with autism shows intolerance to the uncertainty process and intolerance to the uncertainty results in the uncertainty game.Compared with uncertain processes, children with autism are more intolerant of uncertain results. The third part of the study explores the relationship between TU and RRB in children with autism by questionnaires. The TUS12-P and the Repetitive Behavior Scale Revised measure the TU and RRB of 103 children aged 6-18 with autism. The results found that there is a strong relationship between TU and repeated and RRB.The more intolerance of uncertain children with autism are,the more RRB they have. The highlevel RRBs are more relative with TU in children with autism. The fourth part of the study explores the relationship between TU and RRB in children with autism by intervention.A child with autism is intervene by play intervention aimed at TU in a single case experimental design study. The results found that play intervention effectively improves the TU of child with autism and reduces their RRB.The TU is closely related to RRB in children with autism.According to the four parts of the study,it suggests that children with autism have difficult in TU,which is closely related to more severe RRB.Intervention aimed increasing TU can effectively reduce the RRB of children with autism.
