Comparative Research On Duan Bing And Historical European Martial Arts

The successful holding of the first national Duan Bing competition in 2016 indicates that Duan Bing in China has finally entered the fast track of development after nearly a century of silence.At the same time,a kind of Martial Arts movement--Historical European Martial Arts was revived in the western world.Both of them have many similarities in form,such as cold weapon combat involving "pair-two-pair confrontation",but they show many differences between each other.At the same time,with the economic globalization bringing about the cultural globalization,European Historical Martial Arts movement has entered China and is developing at a rapid speed,which has objectively caused the competitive pressure to the development of Duan Bing.Therefore,it is of certain urgency to put the two together for a comparative study.By means of logical analysis,documentary analysis,comparative study and video analysis,this paper makes a comparative study from six aspects: the historical evolution,theoretical basis,technique system,competition rules,weapon design,protective equipment and so on of Duan Bing and European Historical Martial Arts movement.Due to the European history of martial arts sports including many items,the long sword confrontation and sabre confrontation and Duan Bing is similar.Therefore,in the comparison of skill system,competition rules and weapon design,we mainly choose the sword and saber as the comparison object.The purpose of this study is to identify the similarities and differences between Duan Bing and European Historical Martial Arts movement,and to provide theoretical reference for the future development of Duan Bing.Conclusions and Suggestions are as follows:First,through the comparison and analysis of their historical evolution,it is concluded that the formation and germination of Duan Bing and European Historical Martial Arts occurred in the later period of the historical process of replacing cold weapons with hot weapons.However,the social and cultural context in which they emerged is different.Historical European Martial Arts originated from the Victorian era in Britain,when politics,economy,culture and art reached their full height.The wave of restoring ancient ways influenced the budding of martial arts in European history.Duan Bing was born in the cultural collision of "western learning from east to east" in modern China,when the country was weakened and the outside forces invaded.Second,through the comparison and analysis of the theoretical basis of the two,this paper holds that the techniques of Duan Bing have built their own theoretical basis on the basis of the traditional theory of the contradiction between Yin and Yang and the modern scientific theory.In the Renaissance,the techniques of European Historical Martial Arts movement used mathematics as the theoretical basis to construct their own system.Thirdly,through the comparison and analysis of the two skill systems,this paper holds that Duan Bing and European Historical Martial Arts movement have not formed a unified and standardized technical system.Generally speaking,Duan Bing technology is insufficient to inherit the ancient heritage,while European Historical Martial Arts movement,based on the value demand of "rekindle a tradition",inherits the ancient heritage more fully.Fourth,through the comparison and analysis of the competition rules of the two,this paper believes that because Duan Bing only has one kind of weapon,so its competition characteristic is "single cold weapon combat".European Historical Martial Arts sport because of including a variety of weapons,so its competition is characterized by "integrated cold weapon combat." At the same time,the competition of Duan Bing adopts the "scoring system",the winner is the one who scores more points in the specified time.Secondly,Duan Bing requires the athletes to use the clothes,protective equipment and weapons designated by the competition.However,European Historical Martial Arts only put forward corresponding requirements on clothing,protective equipment and weapons,but did not require athletes to use a set of prescribed equipment system.For the etiquette of competition,Duan Bing has developed a set of etiquette rules integrating the gift of the soldier,the ritual before the competition and the ritual after the competition,to reflect the traditional cultural spirit of responsibility,loyalty,modesty,confidence and respect for teachers.European Historical Martial Arts also has its own etiquette content,but compared with Duan Bing,its etiquette content is a little thin,only before and after the competition in the game "sword salute" this is the main etiquette.Finally,the competition rules of Duan Bing are "simplified" in terms of "skill requirements,scoring standards and penalties".However,the competition rules of European Historical Martial Arts sports are "refined" in terms of "skill requirements,scoring standards and penalties",which is closely related to the differences in their respective value orientations.Fifth,through the comparison and analysis of the two arms design,it is believed that the arms design of Duan Bing pursues the "spirit likeness" of the real arms,rather than the "shape likeness",which reflects the value pursuit of "creating a sport" of Duan Bing.The weapon design of the European history martial arts movement achieves the high unification of "spirit likeness" and "shape likeness",which embodies its value pursuit of "Rekindle a tradition".Sixth,through the comparison and analysis of the two protective equipment,this paper believes that the overall protective performance of the protective equipment of Duan Bing conforms to the requirements of Duan Bing,which has the advantages of low cost and large expansibility compared with European Historical Martial Arts movement.The overall protection performance of the protective equipment inEuropean Historical Martial Arts is better than that in Duan Bing,but the cost is higher and the design is less expandable.Finally,the different social and cultural backgrounds of the two have brought up their different value concepts and thus formed different forms of expression.Duan Bing has formed a historical transformation view of "creating a sport",which is embodied in weakening the characteristics of ancient swords on weapons,"starting a new round" on techniques,and "simple and easy to judge" on rules.European Historical Martial Arts formed the historical reduction view of "rekindle a tradition",which was embodied in the imitation of ancient swords on weapons,the reference to ancient manuscripts on techniques,and the reproduction of ancient battles in competitions.This is the basic logic of their development and growth,and also the essential difference between them.The study believes that Duan Bing is now facing a development opportunity,we should recognize our own characteristics and maintain our own advantages in the comparison.It is suggested that the development of Duan Bing should adhere to the concept of "continue to speak,by speaking and through speaking",stand on the rich heritage of the ancient sword and the development experience of predecessors,constantly bring forth the new,reform the new and improve the technical system,and build the system of Duan Bing itself.At the same time,the scope of comparison and reference of Duan Bing should be constantly broadened,and the field of vision should be projected onto the field that has not been paid attention to in the past.We should not only find the commonness between each other,but also know each other's individuality,so as to provide necessary visual support for the experience reference and the maintenance of individuality.Finally to overcome Duan Bing in the pursuit of "facilitation and standardization" phenomenon of the loss of traditional culture in the process,through Duan Bing culture and Wushu,sword culture spirit,natural isolation between the traditional culture connotation,make Duan Bing not general sports,both show a cold weapon combat sport halma blood culture atmosphere,also to the connotation of the culture of Chinese traditional sports "gentle" ideal,and truly become the representative of the combat sport in China.
