One of the ways to improve the quality of undergraduate professional education in humanities and social sciences is to attach importance to and strengthen the undergraduates research(UR).To understand it's current status and effects,which can provide reference for further improvement of undergraduate research in humanities and social sciences.A survey of 836 undergraduates majoring in humanities and social sciences indicates that students' willingness to participate UR is strong;the rate UR's participation of undergraduates(including the state of being involved)is relatively high;the type of UR with the highest rate of participation is social investigation,and the lowest is teachers' research project;a lot of undergraduates' main motivation of participation comes from the intrinsic utilitarian pursuit,not the passionate interest in scientific research.UR's participation of undergraduates(including the state of being involved)with different backgrounds is different.Students who have participated in UR are more satisfied with their universities and undergraduate education.At the same time,they have higher level of skills of research and abilities,critical thinking,interpersonal skills,and stronger willingness to pursue graduate studies and engage in scientific research.To analysis the research participation effectiveness of UR attended integrally by 259 undergraduates majoring in humanities and social sciences found that there are significant discrepancies in the research participation effectiveness of students from diverse backgrounds.After controlling the students' background,the regression analysis results indicate that the factors having the greatest influence on research skills and abilities are whether the person is in charge and participation times;the factors affecting dramatically on critical thinking and interpersonal skills are both the extent of contact with tutors and whether the person is in charge;the biggest factor affecting the willingness to pursue graduate studies and engage in scientific research are the contact with tutors and the guide style of the tutors.There are the following problems in the participations of UR in humanities and social sciences: schools lack effective publicity for lower-grade pupils;it is inadequate requirements and evaluation for UR's results;it is short of guidance from tutors;undergraduates' investment of time is insufficient in UR.In order to advance the development of UR in humanities and social sciences,schools should pay attention to the inequality of UR,increase publicity;enhance guidance of undergraduates' motivation,stimulate their interest of scientific research;payattention to tutors' rewards and assessments,improve achievement evaluation and process supervision.Tutors should establish an academic echelon to systematically cultivate students;take students as the main body and strengthen interaction between them and their students.Undergraduates should coordinate the relationship between learning in classroom and UR,in the meantime,increase investment and frequency of UR;try to establish a rotation mechanism for team leaders to enrich the research experience.
