The redox reaction is the focus and difficulty of the first-stage chemistry teaching.Based on teaching experience and interviews with front-line teachers,it is found that there are certain difficulties and obstacles for high school students to learn, and the learning of redox reactions will directly affect the subsequent elements and their study of compounds, electrochemistry and organic chemistry. For this reason,it is necessary to investigate the cognitive impairment of the first year students in the study of redox reactions and to clarify the following issues:What are the main areas of high school freshman cognitive impairment? What are the levels of different types of cognitive impairment? What are the causes of different types of cognitive impairment? The research is mainly based on Gagne's theory of classification of learning results, and explores cognitive barriers in the study of redox reactions in senior high school students from three aspects: verbal information, intellectual skills and cognitive strategies.Based on the literature and interviews, the survey questionnaire was prepared, and after the initial test and amendment, the test was officially conducted.A survey was conducted on 394 students in two county-level middle schools in Hebei Province.Based on the result of the survey, interviews with teachers and students were conducted to investigate the causes of cognitive impairment. The conclusions of the study are as follows:(1)On the whole, senior high school students have a moderate degree of cognitive impairment in learning redox reactions. In terms of the obstacle dimension, there is a milder degree of cognitive impairment in the dimension of verbal information disorder,a moderate degree of cognitive impairment in the dimension of intellectual skills, and a more severe degree of cognitive disorder in the dimension of cognitive strategy.(2)Among the five secondary dimensions, there is a milder degree of cognitive impairment with respect to the keyword and name of redox reaction. The macroscopic, microscopic, and symbolic triple representation of the transformational obstacle dimension has moderate cognitive impairment. There is a moderate degree of cognitive impairment in the dimension of obstacles in the analysis, concept group, and equation;there is a moderatedegree of cognitive impairment in the dimension of the "redox reaction" law;the degree of obstacle in the migration and application of the "redox reaction" is severe.(3)There are no significant differences in the dimensions of verbal information barriers between students of different types of schools, and significant differences in the two dimensions of barriers in intellectual skills and cognitive strategies.(4)Factors affecting cognitive impairment of speech information include: thinking set, teachers' teaching methods, the content of the "redox reaction" itself and the lack of ability to represent knowledge and problems;factors affecting cognitive impairment of intellectual skills include: thinking set, teacher teaching methods, the content of the "redox reaction" itself, the low level of knowledge structure and the limitations of high school students 'cognitive levels;factors affecting cognitive strategies and cognitive impairment include: teachers' teaching methods, the lack of ability to process basic factual materials using thinking, and limitations of high school students' cognitive levels. Finally, based on the statistical analysis of the questionnaire and interview results, four teaching suggestions are put forward:(1)Create real situations and strive to overcome obstacles for students to understand;(2)Construct a knowledge network and strive to overcome obstacles for students to discriminate;(3)Analyze the microscopic essence, and strive to overcome the obstacles of students' triple representation transformation;(4)Guide self-directed learning and strive to overcome obstacles to students 'migration and application.
