The present study compiles the reasons,process and reflections about the using of the grammatical translation method and the communicative method in comprehensive classroom teaching while the author worked as a chinese language teacher volunteer at the PortugueseChinese Bilingual School in Brazil(CE.Mathematics Joaquim Gomes de Sousa Intercultural Brazil-China).In total,there are six chapters in this article.The first part is an introduction which main content is the status of pedagogical research and the development of Chinese as a second language abroad.The second part presents the current situation of Chinese teaching in Brazil,the general situation of Chinese teaching in Brazil and the overall situation of the Bilingual PortugueseChinese School in Rio,including aspects about students and teachers.The third part mainly analyzes the characteristics of the grammatical translation method and the communicative method.In the initial phase of volunteering,the author observed former teachers teaching and realized that the two former teachers respectively focused on the use of the grammatical translation method and the use of the communicative method.The author also realized that the application separately of such methods in bilingual PortugueseChinese high school had advantages and disadvantages and thus the idea of the comprehensive use of both methods in the teaching of Chinese language arose.The fourth part analyzes the feasibility of using translation method and communication method from the perspective of students,language learning theory and teaching methods.The fifth part is the specific practice of the combination of the two methods applied in the Chinese comprehensive classroom.The author chose one of the two classes in the second grade as an experimental class and in the teaching process,the author showed the comprehensive use of language knowledge,topics and situations in three modes.The last part evaluates and summarizes the teaching effect of the comprehensive application of the teaching method,and puts forward some suggestions for the comprehensive application of the teaching method.
