Ontology is a kind of knowledge sharing and reusing tool.Ontology has been used in many fields in recent years,such as library and information?computer?medical science?geography? biology and etc,and its application will become more extensive in the constant popularization in the future.Information retrieval is one of the important applications of ontology.In the process of ontology construction,the common terms in this field can be determined,the definition terms and the relationships among terms can be specified,and the clearly hierarchical system can be established,so as to achieve better communication between human and computer.With the application research of ontology application in the field of education,in order to make students learn better,and the teachers complete teaching task better,various kinds of curriculum ontology has appeared accordingly,such as the curriculum ontology of Object-oriented Programming,curriculum ontology of Software Engineering,curriculum ontology of Principles of Computer Composition,curriculum ontology of Junior Middle School Mathematics and etc.This paper carefully studied and analyzed the related theory and technique of ontology,discussed and analyzed the main techniques and methods of ontology construction,researched and probed the curriculun knowledge system of Middle School Chemistry on this basis,built the curriculum ontology of Middle School Chemistry with protégé ontology construction tool and OWL ontology description language,established a teaching assistant system for Middle School Chemistry by taking this ontology as the core and combining reasoning and information retrieval,and introduced the construction process of this system;proved by this system,the curriculum ontology built by us could effectively improve the effect of knowledge retrieval,thus providing some reference for the learners of Middle School Chemistry.
