A Study Of Postgraduate Education At The National Southwest Associated University

The National Southwest Associated University,which was born in the flames of the Anti-Japanese War,it still maintained well-qualified education standard,free academic atmosphere and strong national spirit even when the country was in turmoil.Premier Li Keqiang praised it as "no good material,but a great spirit".As the backbone of the research institutes of the republic of China,The National Southwest Associated University inherited and carried forward the tradition of the three prestigious universities of Tsinghua University,Peking University and Nankai University,it formed a unique postgraduate education system and cultivated a large number of well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad.At the same time,it also transmitted the fire of culture and stored the scientific research power for the construction of China.Therefore,it not only shaped a typical model for the cultivation of senior talents in the republic of China,but also provided a valuable case reference for today's education.In this paper,we focus on the postgraduate education of The National Southwestern Associated University,strives to make a systematic and in-depth study on the origin of postgraduate education,the management system and training process of various research institutions.The content of this study mainly divided into the following aspects:Firstly,we look back to the foundation of the university's postgraduate education system.In order to have a basic grasp of the background of the establishment of postgraduate education in The National Southwest Associated University,we analyzed and traced the historical evolution and cultivation mode of postgraduate education in the disparate three schools that make up the National Southwest Associated University.Secondly,the management system of the postgraduate students should be sorted out from the aspects of organizational structure,recruitment of students,reward and subsidy system,the funds of scientific research and study abroad,so as to clarify the organization and management situation of postgraduates.Thirdly,we analyzed the cultivation process of the postgraduate students.In terms of the cultivating model,The National Southwest Associated University adopted the independent cultivation system of institutes under the the guidance of integration,and it formed an integrated training mode of learning,teaching and scientific research,which was guided by "teaching-research-oriented".On the curriculum and teaching,teachers set up a small amount but esoteric courses that combined personal research with cutting-edge theory,and they took academic reports,academic speeches and panel discussions as the primary teaching methods.Besides,teachers emphasized integrating western research methods into Chinese research.In the research training of students,the liberal arts,law,business and science institutes formed different characteristic directions combined with the development of disciplines,national needs and regional resources.In the teacher-student interaction,the teachers and postgraduate students established a democratic and equal relationship,the teacher took good care of the students and gave them great help in study and life.Fourthly,it discussed the effectiveness of the postgraduate education and the limitations of education in The National Southwestern Associated University.From the perspective of the future of postgraduate students,most students chose to go to to universities or research institutes to engage in education and scientific research,constantly deepening the research of academic theories in related fields,and becoming the leader of the development of some disciplinary systems.At the same time,they also developed a rigorous attitude and excellent character.However,despite the outstanding achievements in the postgraduate education,there were some factors that restricted the development of postgraduate education.For instance,the constraints of the war environment on scientific research,the discomfort caused by the transplantation of the western teaching model,and the educational orientation of the National Southwestern Associated University,which actually focused on the cultivation of undergraduate talents.Finally,we summarized the characteristics of the postgraduate education of The National Southwest Associated University based on the analysis above,and show the reasons for its effectiveness,so as to provide reference for the current postgraduate education.
