As being selected by the parents for their children, shadow education shows well educational stratification reproduction.Current researches on educational consumption and its relationship to stratification focus on the effects of economic capital, and the dominating approach is quantitative method. Also, the cultural distinction in educational consumption and its effects on stratification reproduction are less concerned. This is a qualitative research on parents' educational consumption of out-school study service for middle-school adolescent. The experience materials in this research focus on middle-class and labour-class' s motivation, expected outcomes of out-school study service and the process of selecting an out-school study service.Along with a discussion of out-school study service's value to the parents, the experience materials allow the researcher discussing the difference of educational resources, nurturing styles and action strategies between two stratifications.Although the motivations are generally similar – they all hope their children can reach a higher stratification or at least stay at the current stratification-the middle class and labour class show different nurturing styles to fulfil their aims. The middle class tends to engage intensively the education in a detailed way with a long-term plan, while the labour class tends to focus on short-term outcomes and more likely to encourage their children to develop self-management skills.A cultural distinction of nurturing styles is formed between the two stratifications and reinforced in the practice of seeking information and expressing their attitudes to out-school study services.
