According to the studies summarized by the former researchers and the teaching experience accumulated by myself,I chose 338 senior three students from a high school in Gansu Province as the cases for the study. This paper raised three questions. What kinds of mistakes did these senior three students have during answering mathematics multiple-choice questions? What are the reasons? What are the strategies for dealing these mistakes? The purposes of this paper is to make students perform better in answering mathematics multiple-choice questions, and to provide some reference for mathematics education and teaching. This study is based on literatures, tests and interviews. There were some defects found in the previous survey. These defects had been corrected before surveyed formally. The students were required to complete a test paper containing only 12 mathematical multiple-choice questions. The traces or drafts of the solutions were required to remain during finishing the test paper.I interviewed the students selectively,in order to show the students' thinking of answering multiple-choice questions and diagnose them. After further diagnosis of the thinking process of answering mathematics multiple-choice questions,I found that there were three reasons which may cause mistakes including not familiar with knowledge points, improper thinking methods and negligence. These reasons may not directly lead the students to choose the wrong choice. However, the students can still choose the right answer by coincidence or in an improper way. There is no doubt that the causes of students' mistakes were all from the four reasons mentioned above. The unfamiliarity with knowledge points accounts for the largest percentage of all the cases. From the perspective of knowledge points, conic curves and equations, functions and derivatives, trigonometric functions and solution triangles are the three knowledge points with the most existing problems for students.According to the problems mentioned above, the following suggestions are proposed.Firstly, taking the loopholes exposed by students' unfamiliarity with knowledge points into consideration,it is necessary to mobilize students' subjective initiative to make up for them with the help of the teachers.Secondly, the teachers should provide students with various ways to answer the question, and the studentsshould choose the most suitable way to answer the question,so as to help the students to get the best solution in order to save time and achieve better performance during examination in the future. Finally, for students with negligence,it needs the joint efforts of the students, the parents and the teachers to cultivate the quality of prudence.
