Intergroup Threat And Intergroup Prejudice:the Moderation Of Group Identification

Because of the differences in the characteristics of groups and the competition of resources,the inter group prejudice formed by the dual structure of urban and rural migrant workers and urban groups will affect the social harmony and stability.The inter group threat from the dominant groups(urban people)has deepened this prejudice,which is a potential hidden danger of social conflict.Therefore,to explore the influence of inter group threat on the inter group prejudice of the new generation of migrant workers will help to reveal the causes of the formation of prejudice and the influence mechanism,so as to weaken and eliminate the prejudice,and provide theoretical support for the government to formulate corresponding policies,the harmonious development of society,and the communication and integration between groups.Intergroup threat refers to the threat that one group's existence,development and goal are threatened by another group in terms of resources,rights,beliefs,values and other characteristics.In this study,intergroup threat is divided into realistic threat and symbolic threat according to the integrated threat model.When the individual perceives the threats from other groups,it will cause the negative attitude,view and behavior of the individual to the external groups,and produce preference and protection to the internal groups.This phenomenon is called inter group prejudice.Group identity is that individuals think that they belong to a specific group and feel the value and emotion as members of the group.Based on the characteristics of group identity,individuals are divided into inner group and outer group,which is the basis of group threat and group prejudice.On the basis of previous studies and referring to previous research paradigms,this study aims to explore the influence of intergroup threat on the intergroup prejudice caused by the new generation of migrant workers,and to verify the moderating role of group identity in the relationship between them.In this study,the new generation of migrant workers in Shenyang,Chifeng,Jilin and other cities were selected as subjects through random convenient sampling,and two studies were conducted.The first study aims to explore the influence of real threat on the group bias.238 new generation migrant workers are selected and designed by single factor subjects.The independent variable is the real threat with two levels(real threat and no real threat),and the dependent variable is the degree of group bias of new generation migrant workers.Through the real threat materials to start the real threat situation,the control group materials to start the non real threat situation,to verify the impact of the real threat situation on the degree of group prejudice of the new generation of migrant workers,and further explore the regulatory role of group identity on the relationship between the two.The second study aims to explore the influence of symbolicthreat on intergroup prejudice.215 new generation migrant workers were selected.The same design was used in single factor subjects.The independent variable was symbolic threat,with two levels(symbolic threat and non symbolic threat),and the dependent variable was the degree of intergroup prejudice of new generation migrant workers.In order to verify the influence of symbolic threat situation on the degree of inter group prejudice of the new generation of migrant workers,the symbolic threat situation was activated by symbolic threat materials and the non symbolic threat situation was activated by the control group materials,and to further explore the moderating effect of group identity on the relationship between the two.The results show that:(1)the reality threat has an impact on the inter group prejudice,that is,under the situation of reality threat,the degree of inter group prejudice of the new generation of migrant workers is significantly increased;in addition,the level of group identity regulates the relationship between reality threat and inter group prejudice,and the high level of group identity can enhance the degree of inter group prejudice under the situation of reality threat to a certain extent.(2)In addition,the level of group identity can regulate the relationship between symbolic threat and group prejudice.High level of group identity can enhance the level of group prejudice to a certain extent.
