During the growth of children, most children experienced shyness, which mainly manifested in emotions and behaviors such as nervousness, embarrassment, blushing, flinching, and escape. The low level of self-confidence and self-esteem of shy children prevents them from expressing their ideas well, which makes them have difficulties in peer communication. And as they get older, they will face more loneliness and stress, affecting their physical and mental health.Starting from the problem of shyness, this study examines the relationship between self-esteem,peer relationship, and self-concept of primary school students, and aims to provide some theoretical support for the problem of shyness. This study is divided into two parts. In the first study, the psychometric method was adopted. The "School Elementary Shyness Questionnaire" compiled by Li Jungang, the "Self-esteem Scale" prepared by Rosenberg, and the "Self-Concept Questionnaire" revised by Dong Qi.Taking primary school students in grades 4-6 of a primary school in Baoding,Hebei Province as the research object,SPSS.23 was used for statistical analysis of the collected data.Study two:Twelve elementary school students with higher levels of shyness were selected for semi-structured interviews.Nvivo.11 qualitative analysis software was used to encode the interview results. The main conclusions are as follows:1.Elementary school students' shyness mainly focuses on cognitive and physical dimensions.Differences in major demographic variables: in the total score of shyness, the fourth grade is greater than the fifth grade, and the sixth grade is greater than the fifth grade;students who are class leaders have a higher sense of shyness;the only child has a higher sense of shyness. The only child has a higher level of self-esteem;the class cadre student has a higher level of self-esteem.The peer relationship of boys is lower than that of girls;the peer relationship of class cadres is better than that of non-class cadres. The fifth and sixth grade peer relationships are superior to the fourth grade.Boys have better self-concept scores than girls. The fifth and sixth grades are better than the fourth grade self-concept.Self-concepts of students in class are superior to those in non-class.2.There is a pairwise relationship between shyness and self-esteem,peer relationship,andself-concept.3.Self-esteem plays a part of the role of intermediary in the impact of shyness on self-conceptof primary school students. At the same time, peer relationships play a part of the mediatingrole in the impact of shyness on self-concept.4.Self-esteem and peer relationship play a chain intermediary role between shyness andelementary school students' self-concept.Shyness affects individual self-concept levelthrough individual self-esteem level and peer relationship. At the same time,in the fourdimensions of shy behavior, emotion, cognition, and physiology, four chain-mediatingeffects can be established.
