As a basic way to cultivate students' scientific literacy,the science curriculum in primary school plays an important role in promoting the development of students' creative ability.Affected by international science education,STEM education that combines the advantages of various curriculum has become the primary choice for science education in primary and middle schools.However,under the Chinese cultural background,whether STEM education can significantly improve students' scientific creativity lacks a powerful empirical basis.This study used cross-sectional design and questionnaire method to compare the differences in students' scientific creativity between STEM education and general science education,and to understand the impact of STEM education on students' scientific creativity at this stage in primary school.On the basis of maintaining the homogeneity of the experimenters,two schools were selected in Nanjing to examine the level of scientific creativity of the third and sixth grade students.The main results are as follows:The level of scientific creativity in sixth-grade students under STEM education is better than the level of scientific creativity in students under the general science education.However,there is no significant difference in the level of scientific creativity among third-grade students between the two schools.These results indicate that the level of scientific creativity in students under STEM education is superior to the general science education.In addition,gender differences in scientific creativity levels exist only in sixth-grade students under the STEM education.Additionally,the level of scientific creativity in primary school students will increase with the growth of grades.Based on the above research results,this study provides the following suggestions for the cultivation of primary school students' scientific creativity:First,relying on STEM education to enrich the form of science education in primary schools.Second,reduce attention to the gender and role orientation of students,and strengthen attention to students' personality.Third,follow the law of students' physical and mental development and grasp the critical period.
