| The core goal of STEM education is to cultivate communication, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, innovation and creativity, which integrated as collective creativity.Project-based learning is one of the effective ways to drive students propose a variety of new ideas, continuously improve ideas to original and appropriate problem solutions. In this process,high-quality discourse interaction plays a key role. This study aims to explore the impact of discourse interaction on collective creativity from both cognitive and non-cognitive perspectives, discover key interaction patterns, and provide guidance for constructing effective classroom discourse. To achieve it,a STEM learning project is designed and implemented,a total of6,590 discourses and team works, task lists, reflection lists from six groups are collected. This study also constructs a discourse coding framework.Through statistical analysis, the differences in the frequency of discourse coding between high and low performance groups are compared, and the basic characteristics of discourse data are found. In addition, the lag-sequence-analysis method is used for revealing deeper interaction patterns of discourse, and is combined with the content of discourse fragments to explain how different interaction patterns affect the team’s creative performance. The results show that: 1)What promotes collective creativity is using divergent thinking to put forward a variety of ideas, using exploratory talk to evaluate and improve ideas;2)What restrains collective creativity is stereotyped thinking pattern, cumulative and controversial talk;3)Whether it can plan efficiently, monitor and adjust in time, form positive interdependence have impact on collective creativity.Based on the research findings, suggestions from two perspectives of promoting high-quality discourse interaction and cultivating divergent thinking are raised.1)Teachers and students together shall build basic rules of classroom discourse and promote the practice of exploratory dialogue;2)Create an tolerate and respect atmosphere, conduct exemplary dialogue and necessary guidance;3)Design challenging tasks based on real situations to inspire creative motivation and divergent thinking;4)Integrate creative thinking skills to make the project-based learning fruitful. |
