ObjectiveThis study tries to understand the current level of mental health and occupational burnout among editors of academic journals in Henan Province and discuss the relationship between the two. This research enriches the occupational health research of editors of domestic academic journals, provides theoretical references for other relevant research and management departments to further education, training and management of editorial and publishing staff.MethodsIn this study, the SCL-90 and the general version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory(MBI-GS)were selected as the scale for assessing the mental health and job burnout of editors in Henan. The random cluster sampling method was used to sample the editorial staff of 80 academic journals in Henan Province and questionnaires were drawn on the sampled personnel.Use the Epidata3.1 software to establish a database. The SPSS 22.0 statistical software was used for descriptive analysis, independent sample t-test,one-way ANOVA(double comparison using the LSD-t test),correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The test level was α=0.05.Results1.The total score of SCL-90 for editors of academic journals in Henan Province is 138.50±46.91,which is higher than that of normal Chinese SCL-90 norm.In addition to the four factors of “sensitivity to human relationships”,“hostility”,“psychiatry”,and “dietary sleep”,the scores of the other factors were statistically significant compared with the domestic norm(P<0.05),and were all higher than those of the normal model score.2.The editorial staff of the academic journals in Henan Province had an MBI-GS score of 51.96±19.13,31.79% of the editors were in a state of slight burnout, and 11.11% of editorial staffs were in a state of severe burnout.3.The “daily sleep time” and “support level of family members for their own work” of the editors all have a predictive effect on the SCL-90 score, and each variable was negatively correlated with the SCL-90 score.4.The three dimensions of MBI-GS were positively correlated with the ten factors of SCL-90.Among them, the relationship between “emotional exhaustion” and “cynicism” and the mental health factors were significantly higher than the "reduced personal accomplishment".5.Hierarchical multivariate regression analysis showed that the three dimensions of “emotional exhaustion”,“cynicism”,and “reduced personal accomplishment” all entered the SCL-90 total score and the equations of each factor. The three dimensions of MBI-GS all have a good predictive effect on the SCL-90 total score and each factor.Conclusions1.The mental health status of the journal editors of Henan Province is lower than the national norm, and some editors have psychological problems such as depression and anxiety.2.Editors of academic journals in Henan Province are in a state of slight job burnout, and the editorial staff's burnout situation should attract the attention of themselves and related management personnel.3.The daily sleep time, and the degree of family members' support for their work affect the editor's mental health status. There is a clear positive correlation between editors' mental health status and job burnout.Editors' job burnout status is the influencing factor of their mental health status.
