Ad Hoc network is composed of a group of mobile terminals with wireless communication transceiver. It is a multi-hop,self-organizing,non-central network. It has a wide range of applications in the military, civil and other applications that difficult to build a fixed communication facilities with a high degree of flexibility. However, the characteristics of Ad Hoc network topology changes frequently,so that the traditional routing protocols can not meet their needs,so the routing protocol has been the focus of the research of Ad Hoc network. In the existing ad hoc routing protocols, such as DSDV,WRP,OLSR and other protocols are active routing protocols. The characteristic of active routing protocol is that the node keeps the path to other nodes. This type of protocol is suitable for static networks. However, protocols such as DSR and AODV are passive routing protocols, which are suitable for dynamic networks. However,in the real network environment, the mobile speed of nodes is high or low,and there is no protocol that can adapt to the mobile speed of multiple nodes. This paper establishes a mathematical model between the number of new-in and new-out neighbor nodes and the moving speed of the nodes. The ratio o f the number of new-in and new-out neighbors to the total number of neighbors is used to represent the moving speed of the nodes,so as to adapt to ad hoc network applications with various degrees of mobility.ZRP routing protocol has the characteristics o f active route discovery delay end and on-demand route control message overhead because of the combination of the two strategies. Therefore,it is a relatively good routing protocol for Ad Hoc networks, but the performance of ZRP routing protocol depends largely on the size of the radius of the area.At present,ZRP routing protocol adopts the method of preset radius, which undoubtedly limits its usability and improves network performance. In view of this situation, this paper propose an improved ZRP protocol based on the ratio of the number of new neighbor nodes and the number of new run off neighbour nodes to the number of neighbor nodes which can characterize speed. It does not use a fixed radius, when the nodes have high speed and get into intensive areas, reducing the radius,on the other hand, increasing the radius. It effectively overcomes the disadvantage of the ZRP routing protocol, and adapts the change of the network environment dynamically,so that the performance of the network is optimized. Then through the simulation in the Linux+NS2 platform, the simulation results show that different radius have large impact on network performance while using the default radius approach will affect the play of the adaptability and network performance of the ZRP protocol. Finally we prove the improved routing protocol is superior to the ZRP routing protocol in packet delivery ratio, routing overhead and delay, and can adapt to the changing environment.
