Study On The Influence Mechanism Of Technological Diversification On Persistent Innovation Of Enterprises

In the marketing environment of competition that is highly complex and uncertain,enterprises want to maintain dynamic competitive advantage,which need them to constantly carry out product innovation in order to avoid the threat of potential competitors.However,as the knowledge needed by product innovation is gradually spanning in many technical fields,the diversified base of technology is regarded as an important prerequisite for the sustainable product innovation.With the process of technological innovation getting more complicated and the rate of substitution of technical knowledge rising,many complementary and heterogeneous technologies are used to develop a series of products or to explore new products.The enterprises with single technical competence are in an increasingly difficult situation of innovative competition.A large number of studies show that technological diversification is not only the premise for enterprises to take exploratory innovation in the new field,but also the channel to develop exploitative innovation around the core competence.Therefore,it is inevitable that the technological diversification of enterprise has an important impact on its persistence of innovation.At present,based on resource-based view,theory of capacity,evolutionary theory and so on,scholars have studied the influence of internal diverse technological base of enterprises on persistent innovation from multiple perspectives.But the drawback of these studies is that most researches haven't take technological diversification as the antecedent variable to analyze the implementing mechanism of persistent innovation of enterprises,and the researches are not only short of the division of technological diversification's behavior or strategy,but also less analysis of the impact of technological diversification on the path of persistence of innovation(mediating variables)and dynamic change between them(moderating variables).Based on the review of previous documents,this paper firstly explores to establish a theoretical model about the influential mechanism of technological diversification on persistent innovation of enterprises,including the models of mediating effect and moderating effect,and uses the method of questionnaire investigation to collect samples about Chinese enterprises to take empirical research,in order to try to provide new ideas for revealing the "black box" of the process concerning the influential mechanism of technological diversification on persistent innovation.This paper focuses on the following issues:(1)The effect of technological diversification on persistence of enterprise's innovation(i.e.,whether the relationship between them is statistically significant or not);(2)The way that technological diversification affects the persistence of enterprise's innovation(i.e.,whether the capability of technological opportunities and knowledge spillovers among organizations have mediating roles in the relationship of them or not);(3)The dynamic change of the relationship between technological diversification and persistence of innovation(i.e.,whether the degree of openness and organizational slack play moderating roles about the degree of relationship that is strong or weak between them).In this paper,by using the data of the questionnaire survey about the samples of Chinese enterprises,the structural equation model and linear regression were used to take empirical analysis.And Combining with a case study,the following conclusions are finally drawn:(1)Based on the difference of the method of technical search,the two dimensions of technological diversification(the technological diversification of exploration and exploitation)have a significant positive impact on persistence of enterprise's innovation;(2)The capability of technological opportunities and the knowledge spillovers among organizations play a partial mediating role in the relationship between exploratory technological diversification,exploitative technological diversification and persistence of enterprise's innovation;(3)The degree of openness moderates the relationship that has a significant positive impact between exploratory technological diversification and persistence of enterprise's innovation;(4)Organizational slack moderates the relationship that has a significant positive impact between exploitative technological diversification and persistence of enterprise's innovation.This study extends the theoretical system of technological diversification well,and is also This research has better expanded the technical diversification theory system,and it is also a good supplement to the related research about the persistence of innovation,the capability of technological opportunities,the knowledge spillovers among organizations and so on.Moreover,based on the samples of Chinese enterprises,which will help to deepen the mechanism of the impact of technological diversification on persistence of enterprise's innovation,and provide a more practical management enlightenment for enterprise's management of technological innovation.
