A Study On The Operational Performance Of China Merchants Bank's "Light Assets" Strategy

Domestic economic development slowed,financial supervision deepened,bank interest margin gradually narrowed,financial disintermediation intensified,internet finance boomed,domestic and foreign demand was weak,import and export conditions remained sluggish,and price levels continued to operate at a low level,facing such a macroeconomic situation the banking industry only by conducting business product innovation and structural transformation can adapt to the current economic situation,increase competitiveness and maintain sustainable development.As a nationwide commercial bank with considerable scale and strength in China,China Merchants Bank proposed the strategy of creating a light bank in 2014 and proposed a new pattern of "one asset,two wings" of "light assets" strategy,focusing on the basic customer base and core customer base.Build two product systems of basic products and professional products to form a retail business with distinctive advantages and distinctive corporate business,and to improve the competitiveness of China Merchants Bank.The thesis studies the business performance of China Merchants Bank's "light asset" strategy and finds out its shortcomings,and proposes corresponding suggestions for improvement.The study of the dissertation will help improve the competitiveness of China Merchants Bank,and it will serve as a reference for the construction of the bank's strategic evaluation system.At first,the thesis introduced the theory of "light asset" strategy and business performance of commercial banks,and selected evaluation indicators and evaluation methods.Secondly,it introduces the background of commercial banks,the overview of China Merchants Bank and the implementation of the strategy,and analyzes the financial status of China Merchants Bank's implementation of a "light asset" strategy from the structure of its balance sheet and income statement.Once again,the thesis evaluate and analyze China Merchants Bank's implementation of a "light asset" strategy.and conducted a trend analysis of China Merchants Bank's implementation of the "light asset" strategy.It used the analytic hierarchy process to determine the weight of business performance indicators.At the same time,it selected 12 joint-stock banks throughout the country as an analysis sample.Using the efficiency coefficient method to calculate the scores and total scores of various parts of the business performance indicators,and then conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the operational performance of China Merchants Bank's implementation of the "light asset" strategy to obtain the evaluation results.In 2016,China Merchants Bank implemented a "light asset" strategy.The comprehensive score of operating performance was 89.01 points,the evaluation type was excellent,and the evaluation level was A.Finally,through the above comprehensive analysis to find the deficiencies,and put forward suggestions for improvement.
