Environmental quality has increasingly become one of the important factors that affect the quality of life of the people. In recent years, frequent environmental pollution incidents have been touching the sensitive nerves of the public.Among the studies on relation with international trade and environmental pollution,a large number of studies are aimed at revealing the impact and the mechanism of international trade on environmental quality.Based on the previous studies, this article will quantify the effects of international trade on China's environmental quality.Based on the previous theoretical models, this paper determines the total environmental quality equation and selects per capita industrial sulfur dioxide emissions and per capita industrial wastewater emissions that measure air quality and water quality as a measure of environmental quality. After the regression, the variables are significant and the regression results are acceptable. The influence of international trade on the environmental quality of our country depends on the different results of environmental quality indicators.Generally speaking, there is a negative correlation between trade openness and pollution discharge, and the trade openness is conducive to the improvement of environmental quality in China. As far as industrial sulfur dioxide is concerned, the effects of scale, endowment and environmental regulation are not conducive to the improvement of environmental quality in our country, but the negative effect is declining. For industrial wastewater, both the technological effect and the endowment effect are bad for environment. However, the environmental regulation effect reduces the emission of industrialwastewater.Because the environmental laws and regulations in our country are more scientific and rigorous. In general, international trade has an adverse effect on the environmental quality of our country. However,in general, international trade drives our country to play a comparative advantage, drive the industry to move toward a cleaner direction and drive the technological progress related to environmental protection in our country. In our country, the regional development is unbalanced, and the differences among regions also change with time.Endowment effects and environmental regulation effects in the eastern region are conducive to the improvement of environmental quality.Due to its geographical location, the eastern region took the opportunity of reform and opening up to take the lead in developing foreign trade and promoting economic growth. It has crossed the turning point of the environmental Kutzszee Curve. Its demand for clean environment is constantly increasing.Environmental laws and regulations are increasingly being improved and environmental protection technologies are continuously improving. In the central and western regions, the degree of opening up to foreign trade and the level of economic development are still far from the eastern regions. They have become pollution shelters in the international trade competition.Although the endowment effect has driven the industrial structure in the central and western regions to gradually tilt toward the clean industry,That the international trade-driven endowment effect and environmental regulatory effects have a certain negative impact on the environment in the central and western regions. At the national level, both direct and indirect economies of scale are positive, with direct-scale technological effects outweighing indirect-scale effects and trade-induced pollution less than the direct result of trade. Both the direct endowment effect and the indirect endowment effect are also positive.Like the scale technology effect, the indirect endowment effect is weaker than the direct endowment effect. The effects of direct environmental regulation and indirect environmental regulation differbetween the two different pollutants. The direct environmental regulation effect of sulfur dioxide reduces pollution, the indirect environmental regulation effect aggravates the pollution, and the industrial wastewater is the opposite. The key to resolving the negative impact of international trade on environmental quality is to open up channels between economic growth and environment driven by international trade and transform economic growth into pollution reduction and environmental optimization. Therefore, this article gives suggestions from environmental policy and trade policy. The innovation of this article is:Firstly, when dividing the channels of international trade on the environmental quality of our country, this paper combines the scale effect and the technical effect and analyzes it as the scale technical effect. The structural effect is divided into the endowment effect and the environmental regulation effect according to the formation mechanism. The second is to divide the technical effect of scale, endowment effect and environmental regulation effect into direct effect and indirect effect, and to distinguish the direct effect of international trade on the environment and the indirect effect in the long run.Lastly,in this paper, the effect of international trade on the environmental quality is divided according to the eastern, central and western regions.Based on this, the trend of the three effects in2004-2014 is studied.
