Research On The Impact Of Industrial Agglomeration On The Quality Of China's Manufacturing Export Products

Under the background of great changes in the international external environment and domestic development conditions,China's foreign trade development is in the shift period of growth and the transition period of structure.It has become an important issue in theory and practice to improve the quality of China's exports so as to promote the transformation and upgrading of China's foreign trade.As an important organization form and carrier of enterprise development,industrial cluster is of great significance to enhance the development of regional economy and society.After years of development,China?s industrial agglomeration degree improves continuously,with the industrial cluster gradually expanding.Therefore,it is particularly necessary to study further the impact of industrial agglomeration on the quality of China's manufacturing exports,which is of vital practical significance for China to propel the structure adjustment of foreign trade and foster the new advantages of foreign trade competition.First of all,this paper measures the level of industrial agglomeration through location entropy and estimates the quality of enterprises? exports using demand equation regression inference method.The results show that in general Chinese manufacturing industry concentration and export product quality rises steadily from 2000 to 2007.Besides,the characteristic facts of different industries and regions? industrial agglomeration and exports quality are also obtained by adding up the value of the enterprise level to the industrial and regional level.Next,this paper deeply analyzes the theoretical mechanism of industrial agglomeration affecting the quality of enterprises? export products,holding that industrial agglomeration can promote enterprises? export product quality through knowledge spillover effect,cost effect,talent accumulation effect,credit resource allocation effect,and vertical link effect.In addition,with reference to the analytical framework of Crozet and Koenig(2005),we build a theoretical model,under which the positive impact of industrial agglomeration on the quality of enterprises? export products is derived through the analysis of consumer preferences,producer behavior and equilibrium conditions.Then,based on Chinese industrial enterprise data and customs trade data from 2000 to 2007,this paper empirically studies the effects of industrial agglomeration on the quality of export products.The results are as follows: on the whole,industrial agglomeration has a significant promoting effect on the quality of China's export products;from the ownership perspective,industrial agglomeration is conductive to the product quality improvement of private enterprises and foreign-funded enterprises but it is not conducive to the product quality improvement of state-owned enterprises;from the trade pattern perspective,the product quality of processing enterprises is more affected by industrial agglomeration compared to general trade enterprises;from the perspective of regional distribution,industry cluster can significantly improve export product quality of enterprises in east China while has no obvious effect on enterprises in midwest China.Finally,this paper proposes the following suggestions: guide geographical agglomeration of economic activities;consolidate and optimize the hard environment of industrial cluster;attach importance to the construction of soft environment of industrial clusters;promote the transformation and upgrading of industrial clusters,all of which are conducive to enhance the spillover effects of the industrial agglomeration and promote the quality of China's export products.
