In recent decades, with the rapid development of science and technology and the continuous deepening of scientific research,it is difficult for scientific research personnel to complete a single topic or project alone. They often need effective cooperation to improve research results and research efficiency. In the existing literature, the resource-based theory is usually used to study the strategic management of enterprises and the evaluation of enterprise performance, but few literatures reviews the impact of individual scholars' resource reserves on their propensity towards international collaboration and research quality.Through the research of this paper,it not only can perfect the related research of the co-authoring model among scholars, but also provides some guiding significance for scholars to participate in the research of international cooperation.Previous literature on international co-authorships among scholars mainly focuses on three research topics.(1)some literature focuses on the driving factors of international co-authorships among scholars. It mainly includes the information technology, the preferential attachment mechanism and the government incentive policies,etc..(2)some literatures focuses on analyzing the features characteristics of international co-authorships in specific research areas.(3)other literatures focuses on analyzing the impact of international co-authorships on their research outputs. These literatures rarely explain the differences in their propensity towards international collaboration based on the hierarchy of individual scholars. And few literatures have investigated factors which influence the quality of research output under the background of international co-authorships.Applying the resource-based theory(RBT),the article analyzes 164 Chinese inland scholars' co-authorships in the 10 leading SSCI journals in the field of innovation management from 1990 to 2016,and empirically investigates factors which influence native scholars' propensity towards international collaboration and research quality with Logistic regression model and Negative Binomial regression model. The results show that the unique "resources" of individual scholars not only affect their propensity towards international collaboration, but also affect the research quality.Specifically,(1)The overseas education background has a significant positive impact on Chinese scholars' propensity towards international collaboration, but has no significant impact on the research quality. This result means that scholars with doctorate degrees abroad are better at using their accumulated "transnational capital" for international co-authoring,but this "transnational capital" cannot bring higher research quality for scholars under the influence of other factors.(2)Both the overseas academic exchange experience and academic experience have significant positive impacts on the research quality, but have no significant impacts on the propensity towards international collaboration. This shows that mainland scholars can improve the research quality as visiting scholars at and long-term academic research, but this cannot lead scholars to carry out more international co-authoring research. The empirical results may not only provide suggestions for Chinese scholars to improve research quality, but also have important implications for the talent recruitment policies for universities from mainland China.
