In order to thoroughly understand the technical development of rare earth application materials in rare earth midstream industry,and put forward practical suggestions to China rare earth enterprises and relevant departments to point out the direction for the research and development of rare earth products.This paper uses the statistical analysis method and the scientific knowledge mapping method to combine several statistical and visualization analysis software to analyze the current status,hot spots and evolution of technology research and development in the international rare earth midstream industry based on the patent data of Derwent Innovations Index.The analysis of the research and development situation mainly includes three aspects: the time trend,the regional distribution and the applicant distribution.The overall trend analysis found that the number of patent applications increased periodically and could be divided into three phases.The regional distribution analysis found that the patent applications of China,Japan and the USA are more than other countries,the USA and Japan are more evenly,while the research duration of China was short.Analysis of the applicants found that the technical patents in the core applicants are more concentrated,but in the margin applicants are more scattered.The cooperative network of patent applicants shows that American petroleum or chemical companies cooperate with each other more frequently,while research institutions in China cooperate with each other sparingly,and most of them are universities and institutes.The analysis of research and development hot spots includes IPC and DMC.The hot spot technology fields such as B01D-053/94 are discovered by statistic of IPC.We find the co-occurrence relationship and clustering results by using VOSviewer to draw the co-occurrence knowledge mapping of hot spots.Statistics DMC discover J04-E04 and other hot techniques,the key techniques are found by the DMC co-occurrence network drawn by CiteSpace?,and the co-occurrence and clustering of the hot spots are found by VOSviewer.The analysis of technological evolution includes DMC and patent citation.The key technology and technological frontier are discovered by drawn the DMC co-occurrence time zone network,the main route of citation evolution is extracted by drawing the patent citation network.
