The Effect Of Technical Potential Difference On Enterprise' Technological Capability Growth Based On An Industry-University-Institute Cooperation

Since the 1990 s,the cooperation between production,education and research has become the strategic focus of China's national innovation system,and has played a very important role in upgrading China's industrial technology capabilities.Industry-university-research cooperation is an important way for companies to obtain pre-competitive technologies from universities and scientific research institutions.It helps to compensate for structural inadequacies of their own technologies and build technological competitive advantages.However,it is constrained by many factors and promotes the technological capabilities of enterprises based on cooperation between production,education and research.There is a big gap between the efficiency and effectiveness of the practice and the expectation.Collaborative innovation by universities and scientific research institutes has not been able to give full play to the proper function of promoting the growth of the company's capabilities.In explaining the differences in the influence of the cooperation between industry,universities,and research institutes on the technological capabilities of enterprises,many studies have begun to focus on the important role played by the technology gap between enterprises and institute partners.In this paper,we review the progress and deficiencies of relevant researches in the literature,expand new research perspectives on the basis of existing research,and then define the research direction,research methods,and marginal contributions of this article.In explaining the impact of technological potential on technological capabilities of enterprises,this study will be carried out from the following aspects.First,whether Chinese companies have achieved a significant difference in the long-term and short-term effects of technological capacity growth through R&D cooperation with institutes? How to choose institute partners with the appropriate technical position to achieve corporate technical capacity development and how in the long-term and short-term results? Third,in the enterprise technology innovation life cycle with the evolution of endogenous absorption capacity,how does the technological potential affect the the growth of technological capabilities of enterprises? This paper first sorts out relevant concepts and related research progress in the literature review,provides reference for defining the research perspective and marginal contribution of this paper,and then lays the foundation for deduction of this research through theoretical analysis and logical deduction.Base on that,This paper uses Derwent's public patent data between 1995 and 2012 with Chinese pharmaceutical companies as research subjects,in a robust mixed regression and individual effect model.After a preliminary test of the long-term and short-term effects of technological potential on the technological capabilities of enterprises,this paper further examines the threshold effect of technological potential differences and its heterogeneity with corporate life circle.Finally,comes the conclusions of this paper as follows:(1)The short-term effect of the growth of technological capabilities in the cooperation between enterprises,universities,and research institutes is significantly better than the long-term effects.The influence of the technical potential differences between the two partners on the growth of the company's technological capabilities has a long-term and short-term heterogeneity,and is affected by the relative technical potential of both parties.(2)As a whole,the technical potential difference has a significant threshold effect on the long-term growth of technological capabilities of enterprises,and varies with the evolution of the enterprise's technological innovation life cycle.The specific performance is that the technical potential threshold moves forward with the evolution of the enterprise technology life cycle.(3)The threshold for the long-term growth of the technological capabilities of enterprises lies on the mutual cooperative experience between the enterprise and the academyc partners,varying its technological innovation life cycle.
