This paper re-measures and analyzes the trade situation between China and "Belt and Road" areas from the prospective of trade in value added method, and suggests that the trade in value added between China and "Belt and Road" areas continues to increase, which is consistent with the development trend of traditional trade. However, the trade in value added accounting amount is generally lower than that of the traditional method.Judging from the value added trade structure,China's exports of value added to "Belt and Road" areas are mainly concentrated in textiles and clothing, electronic products, machinery and other manufacturing products. On the other hand, the exports structure of "Belt and Road" areas to China are quite different. In terms of trade relations, there are differences in trade competitiveness and complementarity between China and "Belt and Road" areas.Trade relation between China and Southeast Asia is the mainly competitive, compared with Northeast Asia,West Asia and Central and Eastern Europe, where trade complementarities are dominant, further comparison between relations of trade in value added and traditional trade relations reveals that the trade relations between China and various areas are generally consistent under the two accounting methods, but differing in several industries. Moreover, the empirical analysis suggests that the differences between China and various areas in terms of factors endowment, industrial development, market demand and market competition affect the development of trade relations.Based on differences in trade relations between China and "Belt and Road" areas, this paper proposes to take targeted measures to strengthen the cooperative relations in the field of commodity trade and to open up new fields of cooperation in service trade. We should pay attention to the interconnection with the transportation and communication infrastructure along “Belt and Road” and realize the win-win situation of trade cooperation through preferential trade mechanism arrangement.
