During the past 40 years,China's economy has achieved great success due to significant boost of export industry. However, the traditional way of economic growth has lost its power gradually due to the increasing cost, fiercer international competition and serious economic situation in China and the world. Therefore, enhancing total factor productivity to better exporting structure, increase export product quality and strengthen the competition of exporting industry has become a must choice. This paper chose 26 economies as total samples, dividing 17 developed countries and 9 emerging economies as split samples. This paper used theoretical and empirical analysis to examine the impact of total factor productivity on export product quality. And then using innovation progress effect, cost & income effect and comprehensive effect to analyze the theoretical mechanism of how total factor productivity influence export product quality. And based on the elasticity of substitution,?=5&?=10,the paper use Logit way to measure the export product quality of 26 economies from 1995-2000;and then choosing two different total factor productivity data(CTFP & RTFP)from Penn World Tables, and capita GDP,human capital as well as foreign trade dependence as explanatory variables. And then established econometric model obtained empirical conclusions by regression analysis. In addition, using the data measured basing on elasticity of substitution ?=10 to replace the data from ?=5 to do the robustness test. The conclusions as follows: First,in terms of export product quality, the level of developed economies are generally higher than that of emerging economies, but the gap has been shortened gradually.Second, total factor productivity has a positive impact on export product quality of total samples and developed economies, but the impact on the emerging economies is not clear.Third, capita GDP,human capital and foreign trade dependence has a positive impact on export product quality of whole samples and split samples.
