The Microchannel Plates(MCP)has been widely used in the field of low-light night vision because of the great electron multiplying capability.In our project,a large amount of glass fiber with a high precision of 0.66 ± 0.0015mm were required for manufacturing the MCP.Therefore,a high-precision glass fiber drawing machine was designed and meet the project targets,moreover,the related experiments were implemented to show the performance of the machine.The high-precision glass fiber is made by the glass preform with the second multifilament.Furthermore,the glass preform is an amorphous body and soften without melting at high temperatures.In this paper,a theory model of the necking radius and tension in the drawing process was established through the mathematical derivation.This model can provide theoretical basis for the design of drawing machine system.According to the technical indexes and design requirements,the overall scheme of the drawing machine was designed.Then,the top-down mechanical structures of the drawing machine were devised respectively,and the ADAMS.and ANSYS software were implemented to analyze the kinetics and statics of the key components,which can guarantee the reliability of the mechanical system design.In addition,the control system of the drawing machine was considered in the design process.For the control module,an incremental PID algorithm was applied,which can automatically adjust the diameter of the glass fiber,and have been verified with the relevant experiments.The preparation of high-precision glass fiber for MCP was studied with experiments,and the experimental results were analyzed and discussed.We can find that the glass fiber obtained from the machine meets all the requirements:the diameter of glass fiber is 0.66 ±0.0015mm,tension is 3kg-4kg and temperature is 710?-720?.
